About Me

ABOUT ME

Hi couch owner! I created an account years ago, but have actually never used couch surfers, now I'm ready and feeling optimistic :) I'm an american, from Boston, and have lived in Europe for 4 years (Holland & Sweden). I'm 26-years-old, well accomplished, eager to travel and learn about new cultures. I love meeting new people and am always up for an interesting conversation with a diverse crowd. Currently, I'm working on a masters in management at Lund University in Sweden - it's a small town so I have a travel itch!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The idea of couch surfers appeals to my (not only for my wallet) but to get a real local vibe, tips, and meeting new friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I used to volunteer for African refugees at the International Rescue Committee in the states. A woman came over from the Congo, her husband had been murdered there, so she came alone with just her children.

When she arrived to the states, the state had taken her 5 children away because she had taken too long to find a job and could not support them. They were all put into foster homes. She was in a new country - no job - and now her children were gone. I was teaching her English words by drawing funny pictures to explain. She got such a kick-out-of-it that she literally had tears of laughter!

I didn't know about her story until later that day. The manager of the agency told me that she hadn't seen the woman smile, or show any emotion since her children had been taken away 5 months prior. I was deeply saddened to hear her story - yet truly happy that I was able to make her laugh her self to tears, and for a moment forget about all her troubles. I'll never forget it.
