CURRENT MISSION

I am looking to settle down in Toronto for the end of March and the whole of April before hopefully getting a summer job in Muskoka, my visa ends at the end of November 2013 and I then hope to start my new adventure in January 2014.

ABOUT ME

My name is Alex Brierley and I am from Warrington, Cheshire in England, Warrington is directly in the middle of Manchester and Liverpool so I find myself in the cities quite often when I'm home. I love to travel and new things and that is why I came to Canada in the first place. I'm a young, enthusiastic person who bodes well in big and small groups and finds making friends quite easy, I'm a very chatty person and I'm not uncomfortable around new people and new experiences, these things excite me and that is part of the reason I applied for couch surfing in the first place as this is all of those things combined. One of my biggest hobbies is watching/playing football (soccer), I'm a massive Manchester United fan. Partaking in sports is my favourite pass time which I haven't been able to do since I arrived in Canada unfortunately, apart from the skiing at Blue Mountain. I love to make jokes, have a laugh and socialise with other people in all different aspects of life, whether it be at work, over a drink, over a meal or just having a chat on the couch I love hearing peoples stories and sharing mine with other.

PHILOSOPHY

When I finished college and started working I became a strong believer in having to experience new things outside of your own world, your own life and the people you know. In January 2013 I applied for my work program in Canada and never looked back, I decided it was time to begin my travels and experience life outside of my comfort zone and to try and make it on my own two feet, so that's exactly what I did. I arrived in Canada on the 26/11/12 and since then I have worked a full winter season for Blue Mountain, learned to ski, met some lifelong friends and made bonds with people that I will never forget. I feel that I shouldn't live a life I'm not enjoying so I will keep on doing new things and searching for a a career path until I find what I really want to do and where I want to be.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently on a 12 month working visa and I leave my post at Blue Mountain ski resort on the 23/3/13, I will be heading back to Toronto

I have seen Bon Jovi in concert and Jay-Z and Kanye West's Watch The Throne collaboration tour twice.
My favourite movies are Space Jam and The Shawshank Redemption, I am unbelievably passionate about both of these movies and will never tire of watching them.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

Spent a week in Soweto, South Africa working with a local school there because of a link project that me and some students from my college helped set up. We were set a challenge to raise £12,000 in 8 months to fund the project to get us there, buy resources, travel and fund a return trip for some students from the local school, Matseliso High. Seeing the local villages, learning about the apartheid and speaking to students and people it affected directly was an extremely overwhelming experience and I will never forget it. There are too many stories about my trip to South Africa and I could spend hours telling them all, it was the most amazing experience of my life hands down.

I am a fairly good footballer and as it is not as big a sport in Canada as it is in England I feel I could teach people the game and how to play it well if they liked.
