About Me

Hello everyone,

I was lucky enough to grow up in the middle of the high mountains of the Alps, in Chamonix, France. I am passionate about climbing and skiing, as well as surfing. These activities often motivate some (main) parts of my trips. Although Chamonix is a great place, I felt the need to get out of my valley and open my mind through my studies and a greater city to live in. Therefore, I have been living in Paris since 2011. I am now completing a PhD in Economics at the Paris School of Economics and teaching at La Sorbonne. Among my main hobbies is climbing, and I go and climb outdoor in Fontainebleau, near Paris, several times a month. I am also a music amateur, with a special attraction for hip-hop, jazz and techno music.
Along my studies I have always tried to have some moments for trips, either in Europe or further (Indonesia, Sri Lanka, USA...). I traveled on my own several times, but not often in places where couchsurfing was available, hence my little experience with it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am often traveling on my own, hence Couchsurfing can be a privileged way to meet some locals or simply to get insiders' tips. Furthermore, we live in a period of time in which most our great and beautiful western cities (small or big) are unaffordable, so I am personally convinced that ways of exchange beyond money, like Couchsurfing, are of a great importance to give access to these places to more people.

Interests

Being a researcher, I am deciding autonomously most of the work I am doing, hence it is already part of my hobbies. Furthermore, the other part of my job is teaching, and I would say that I appreciate teaching as much as doing research. Beyond my academic work, outdoor experiences related to climbing, mountains or ocean, occupy most of my free time, either through my weekends in fontainebleau, near Paris, or in my trips. I am also a music listener and I used to play saxophone.

Music, Movies, and Books

Regarding hip-hop music, I am a J Dilla big fan, and I listen to Madlib, the Roots, Common, Anderson Paak, 9th Wonder, etc. just to quote a few.
Regarding Jazz Music, I listen to Miles Davis, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Chick Correa, Al Di Meola, etc.
Regarding electronic music, I mainly listen to either industrial Berlin-style techno, or to romanian-style minimal/micro house (Petre Inspirescu, Barac, Thomas Melchior, etc.)

In terms of cinema, let me quote few of my favourite movies: The Orange Clockwork (S. Kubrick), Stalker (A. Tarkovsky), Wings of Desire (W. Wenders), Pulp Fiction (Q. Tarantino), Once Upon a Time in America (S. Leone), There Will Be Blood (P.A. Anderson)...

I have mainly read French literature up to now. Among my most important readings are Sentimental Education (G. Flaubert), Journey to the End of the Night (L.F. Celine), Memoirs of Hadrian (M. Yourcenar), M. Proust...

Teach, Learn, Share

Whether it is to teach one of the outdoor activities I manage like skiing or climbing, or to learn more surfing, I am always happy to share about these passions. Furthermore, I am always disposed to discuss about my subjects of research.
