Overview
About Me
Born in north China, grew up in Hokkaido, Japan, moved to UK in 2010. Owing to growing up in Hokkaido, I'm in love with nature, so hiking, walking in woods and beaches, skiing are all my thing! Plus I'm into photography, so I literally take my camera everywhere I go.
I'm absolutely in love with going to different places, see and measure the world with my own eyes and feet. The diversity of culture, architecture and languages always fascinates me. And of course, the more I travel, the more places I love to go to pop up in my mind. :)
I'm currently doing my PhD in Biomedical Engineering. So my typical day will be either in my lab or reading (drinking) research (some) articles (tea). I normally play a bit of piano in the evening to switch off my 'work mode', I'd welcome any help with improving my piano skills.
I'm also a PADI Divemaster and I volunteer in assisting SCUBA diving training sometimes. The smile on people's face after first dive is priceless! I guess it's also a change for myself to get out there and meet new people and listen to fun stories! That does mean that you'll probably have to stop me if I'm talking too much about SCUBA diving! I tend to get hyper when talking to people, so you are guaranteed to have a good laugh with me! In General, I'm open-minded, optimistic and cheerful person. Also, very spontaneous, so up for trying anything new!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love travelling but trying my best NOT to be an ordinary tourist who get off a coach, take a selfie and post online with a geo tag, so the box is ticked.
To me travelling is all about the connection, be at new places, meeting new people, make new friends, explore the place like locals, sharing the experience with others. Listen to amazing stories, learn from others, as well as offering other what I can.
Interests
My mum forced me to learn piano when I was 4. I absolutely hated it, and I still hated it when I got my ABRSM Grade 8. Then study caught up and I stopped for a few years. When I picked it up again few years back, I truly fell in love with it and felt very grateful that mum forced me to do it.
SCUBA diving is my passion. I always say to people, ‘you go to Savannah, see all the amazing animals, but can’t get too close to them, without them running away. While in scuba diving, marine animals come to you.’
Lastly, (Not many people know about this actually)...I did popping for a while when in school because it was 'cool'. Unlike piano, I forgot all the moves!

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Normally listen to piano and orchestra, especially classical pieces. I do also listen to other types, don't have a favourite, based on the song really, not the singer or genre. Still find it bit hard to accept heavy metal though.
Movies: NOT a fan of Sci-Fi (surprisingly). Can't stop myself for pick un-scientific facts out of them..hahaha. In general Documentaries, Action, comedy, fits the best to my taste. and of course good drama that tells great story (the best if they are real).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was volunteering at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in China prior moving to UK. It was a place of ‘life and death' ; 'hope and disappointment'. To be honest, I hated that place. But through this experience, I've realised how lucky I am to live a life I'm in, and this kinda shaped who I am today.
A bonus fact...... I've learned English from ABCs to having a rather understandable conversation in 4 months.
