About Me

Hi! I’m Alican, a 31-year-old guy from Istanbul with a serious passion for exploring the world and connecting with people from all walks of life.
I love traveling because every new place teaches me something different — about cultures, food, stories, and myself. Meeting new friends along the way is what makes it truly special for me. Whether it’s sharing street food in a busy market, hiking in the mountains, or just chatting over tea until late at night, those genuine human connections are what I live for.
I’m generally easy-going, respectful, clean, and always up for both adventure and chill moments. Looking forward to hearing your stories too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe the best way to really understand a place is through the people who live there — not just tourist spots. I love sharing stories, meals, and laughs with locals and other travelers. It’s not just about free accommodation for me; it’s about creating real, meaningful connections and leaving each place (and person) a little happier than before. I’ve had incredible experiences as both a surfer and host, and I want to keep that spirit going.

Interests

• Traveling & exploring off-the-beaten-path places (especially hidden gems in nature and local neighborhoods)
• Meeting new people and sharing stories over tea/coffee or street food
• Hiking, beach walks, and outdoor adventures (love mountains and sea equally!)
• Turkish & international cuisine — cooking together, trying new recipes, or hunting the best local eats
• Photography (mostly phone pics of sunsets, markets, and candid moments with people)
• Music: Turkish indie/rock, world music, live gigs, and chill playlists for road trips
• Movies: Adventure films, travel documentaries, and thought-provoking dramas
• Learning languages & cultures — always picking up basic phrases and customs
• Cycling around cities, spontaneous plans, and deep late-night conversations
• Yoga/relaxing in nature, reading travel books, and discovering street art

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I listen to almost everything — Turkish indie/folk (like Duman, Mor ve Ötesi, Gaye Su Akyol), classic rock, electronic, and lately a lot of lo-fi and world music while traveling. Live concerts are my happy place.
Movies: Big fan of travel/adventure films (Into the Wild, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), thoughtful dramas, and some sci-fi mind-benders. I also love old Turkish black-and-white classics.
Books: I enjoy reading on the road — Paulo Coelho, Haruki Murakami, travel memoirs, and anything about history or human connections. Right now I’m into “The Alchemist” re-read and some Orhan Pamuk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most unforgettable experiences was hitchhiking across Turkey’s Black Sea coast with almost no plan — just a backpack and curiosity. I ended up staying in tiny mountain villages, learning how to make mıhlama from locals, swimming in hidden beaches, and even joining a family wedding for a night of endless dancing. It reminded me how kind and open strangers can be when you approach them with respect and a smile.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I can show you around Istanbul like a local (hidden spots, best street food, how to haggle nicely 😄), basic Turkish phrases, or even how to make a proper Turkish coffee/çay.
Learn: I’m super curious about your culture, language basics, local recipes, or any skill you love (playing an instrument? cooking something special? photography tips?).
Share: Good conversations, positive energy, respect for your space, and maybe a small gift from Turkey (like lokum or çay).

What I Can Share with Hosts

A clean and respectful stay — I always clean up after myself and treat your home like my own.
Local Turkish treats or stories from Istanbul if you’re curious.
Help with anything practical (cooking a simple meal together, fixing small things if I’m handy, or just being a good listener).
Most importantly: genuine company, good vibes, and gratitude for opening your home. I’m flexible, quiet when needed, and social when the mood is right.
