Overview
About Me
I'm most interested about art and culture in every way, so I'm always up for listening to new music, going to art exhibitions and events, seeing movies, going to poetry readings and stuff like that. I'm also very enthusiastic about food and adventures through the senses. When given the choice I usually go for the most atypical possibility (which sometimes is the norm of a certain place but not from my standpoint)
I consider myself curious and calm, love to breathe in and then take a dive.
I have some random talents like: sleeping in unusual places (death metal concerts, bus stops, bars, etc) which is both a blessing and a curse. And I am often approached by crazy people, I'm not sure why, I am a sort of magnet, and I enjoy it (and also have a habit of writing about it afterwards)
Actually anything interesting that happens to me is probably bound to become a chronicle afterwards, but don't worry, if you happen to become a character in such a context I won't reveal your identity.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I've hosted, I've surfed, I've shown people around!
For me one of the most important aspects of travelling is getting to know people, and when I'm short of money for travelling myself, hosting is the most similar experience to it.
So I enjoy doing both, and have mostly had nice experiences.
I don't wanna be a tourist in the common sense, I want to explore and expand the map, go further from the cliches, and avoid them if possible (unless they are absolutely amazing and you can't miss). I don't want to travel to see the postcards from the inside, you could search googleimages for that. I wanna truly feel the most human every place has to offer, I wanna see how artists interpret and reinvent the territory, I wanna know what is special and underrated, I need the space to try and sometimes fail or maybe find the most amazing unexpected people and happenings.
I've met plenty awesome people though this website, both by hosting and surfing, some of which I now consider true friends of mine. Each experience was special to me, when I was surfing I had the pleasure to find how people experience their hometown, and while hosting I came to discover my own city anew by someone else's eyes.
From now on I'm willing to always contact people from CS whenever I'm travelling somewhere new! :)

Music, Movies, and Books
MOVIES - Some of my favorites are: Inland Empire, Northfork, Waking Life, and pretty much everything by Svankmajer, Wong Kar Wai, Myiazaki
I'm a passionate music nerd. I like anything from: experimental-neo-psycyhedelia; folkloric - such as candombe, balkan gypsies, salsa, norweggian, northern brazilian, anything I can vibrate to, even though I might not understand a word from the lyrics! rock 'n roll (yeah!), indie - love the "I recorded this myself in my room or garage, with this lame recorder" feeling! I also enjoy songs that are not so remarkable by its sound, yet have powerful lyrics.
Some favorites: of Montreal, David Bowie, Animal Collective, Oneida, John Vanderslice, Magnetic Fields, Julie Doiron, Mestre Ambrósio...(http://lastfm.com/user/lysergicalice)
Books - I have kind of peculiar habits in reading. I'm very curious and able to enjoy a theoretical book as much as good literature!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Meteor showers falling from the sky, in a high, dark place, in a small town, in winter. We watched it layed on the grass, we also had telescopes. It was simple and beautiful.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can help you with brazilian portuguese, and have fun while doing so! Can teach you any kind of portuguese you want, from grammar to slangs, its such a lovable language.
I'm also interested in learning new recipes and food culture from around the world.
I'm used to spending a lot of time in the kitchen, so we could cook together, I love sharing kitchen knowledge.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I used to be a baker, I can bake you some bread! Recently I've been experimenting with sourdough bread. If you're into it we could cook together, I think its always a nice way to connect and share cultural knowledge.
I could make you a drawing or a print you can check some of my artwork at https://www.instagram.com/alimeporto/
