Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to couch surf as I really want to immerse myself into the culture and community of the areas that I plan to visit. Although born in the UK, my parents are originally from Nigeria and so when I visited Nigeria for the first time I stayed with family as opposed to a hotel. I can honestly say that it was one of the best experiences I have ever had abroad as I learnt so much about my heritage that I did not know before, it felt almost as if it was a second home and I felt I was also able to give so much back in terms of my knowledge of living in the UK and other places that I have visited.

Interests

My interests include reading (yes I am a bit of a nerd), exploring (I have a terrible sense of direction, so everyday is an adventure for me), playing netball, swimming and learning new things such as surfing and gaining a better understanding of different cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Pop, r'n'b, neo-soul (think Eryka Badu etc.)

Books: most fictional African-American literature, Pan-African Literature, Classics

Movies: the Bourne trilogy, Hunger games, Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, the Hobbits, Harry Potter, every Marvel movie ever made; however, my particular favourite has to be X-Men

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Highlight so far has to be jumping off a 58 foot high cliff in Malta, that being the first time I have ever done cliff-jumping! I would definitely do it again, if I had the chance :-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can offer hosts an enthusiastic, kind, helpful and respectful stay. I am grateful that there are people out there willing to welcome other people to their home out of the goodness of their hearts and hopefully with the same curiosity I have to learn from different cultures.

Although I would be grateful to be welcomed into your house, I want my experience of getting to know hosts and the local community to be wider than this, that is why I would also be interested in helping, be it through cooking, cleaning or volunteering. I truly would like to make friends in the places I visit, in the hope that someday I may be able to host the same people that hosted me in the UK.
