About Me
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Hehe hi! Thanks for stumbling across my profile!
My name is Alisa, and I'm from Calgary, Alberta. I'm very friendly, quirky, spontaneous, and down to earth. I've lived in Canada my entire life, and have begun traveling overseas more recently - I traveled to S.E. Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore) March-April of 2019 and to say that it was a culture shock is a bit of an understatement.
Traveling is such an eye opening experience - it makes you learn on a personal level how others around the world are living, and for me personally, it has made me gain a new sense of appreciation and gratitude for all of the things I have in my life - my mother, a place to sleep every night, food to eat, my friends and family, and the abundance of opportunities and experiences that are all accessible and within arms length.
I truly believe that every single person should strive to experience as many new cultures as they can. It is pertinent to gaining a better understanding of people around the world! (People live very differently around the world, and unfortunately the global news doesn't accurately depict the differences)
As great as traveling is, it is also very costly. Couchsurfing seems to be the most genuine and affordable way of providing for a safe place to rest your head for a short period of time, as well as meeting new people and developing amazing international relationships.
Other than traveling, I work as a nurse on a dementia/medical-surgical unit (newfound ratchet healthcare humor), I live with my mom in a sweet and cozy bungalow in N.W. Calgary, and I strive to live a healthy and active lifestyle, learning new cooking recipes, and working out daily.
why should you consider hosting me?
- I am clean and respectful and will help out with as many things as I can.
- I am a very passionate person. Passionate about working out, about being a kind and dependable person, about always growing and moving forward regardless of what life throws at you, and about helping other people grow. Life is short. Yes, you will encounter a bunch of awful situations, and awful people, but that doesn't have to turn you into an awful person
- I will return your kindness in clean and sealed toilet paper rolls. If you are very kind to me, I will probably buy you a whole stack, and 4 ply if I can find some
I enjoy many things and am very open to trying new things. I invest most of my time into nurturing relationships, and I love learning about a person's likes and dislikes. I would love to learn about what makes you, you.
I hope that if our paths ever cross, I can be a person of encouragement, love, and laughter to you! All the best.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiked Penang Hill (Malaysia) in +40 degrees Celsius with humidity with little to no shade coverage. This part I consider amazing because I did not die of heat stroke or exhaustion and end up having a farmer find my dead body on the trail.
What was probably not amazing and very stupid, is that this hill had lots of rice fields and I did not get the Japanese encephalitis precautionary injection because I did not think I would be exploring too much of the rural areas. oops (fyi, I did not get encephalitis!! But I would get the shot next time - I *sometimes* learn from my mistakes...)
Teach, Learn, Share
Chinese, philosophy, life experiences
What I Can Share with Hosts
- smiles, abundance of awkward laughter, genuine conversations
- nursing insight/experiences
- philosophical talks
- a fun and relaxing time
- dad jokes and dark humor
- toilet paper/dish soap for letting me use yours!!
- excessive amount of "sorrys"
- a personal garburator #1 (if you need to vent and destress I am a good listener and will provide sound advice only if asked. Otherwise I offer a hug and will feed you good food)
- garburator #2: I will eat all the leftovers from our meals together so that we don't contribute to the global food waste pile.
But if it is expired/moldy I will have to toss it as I will probably not have packed as much Imodium this time as compared with the Imodium I brought to Thailand. Im sure your toilet wouldn't appreciate me either
