About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends. (Maya Angelou)

ABOUT ME

Salaam (peace). I had the enormous fortune of being raised on the beauteous San Juan Island, WA and often feel the need to share its splendor now and then. Despite my busy grown-up schedule, I still manage to spend time there over the summer to play and work. But Seattle has been my real home for several years while I worked on my BA in International Studies from Seattle U. Now that I've graduated and am bouncing around between internships and volunteering, I'd like to take some time to travel with my boyfriend.

PHILOSOPHY

"We die containing a richness of lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we have plunged into and swum up as if rivers of wisdom, characters we have climbed into as if trees, fears we have hidden in as if caves.
I wish for all this to be marked on by body when I am dead. I believe in such cartography - to be marked by nature, not just to label ourselves on a map like the names of rich men and women on buildings. We are communal histories, communal books. We are not owned or monogamous in our taste or experience."
— Michael Ondaatje (The English Patient)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The spontaneous generosity of strangers is something I have great faith in. My travels in Europe, Latin America, and a brief period of North African residency has exposed me to many extremes of human interaction, from the altruistic to the mysogynistic. But the goodness that I've experienced elsewhere has inspired me to extend the best parts of my home, company, and hospitality at home.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have both hosted and been a guest. The CouchSurfers I have hosted have been absolute delights with nary a bad experience. The same goes for my experience of being a guest. Lucky for me I'm able to call most of my guests and hosts friends and look forward to seeing them all sometime in the future.

Interests

Postmodernism, the great outdoors, civic engagement, red wine, my loved ones, home-grown grub, Arabic language, free market solutions to development.
