About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Siempre supe que es mejor, cuando hay que hablar de dos, empezar por uno mismo"

ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Alvaro and I live in the college town of Davis, California, U.S (20 minute drive from Sacramento, 1-1.5 hour drive from San Francisco). I study here as well, and it has so far been a life-changing experience and a blast! I've been told I have a both extroverted and introverted personality, which I suppose means that I can be shy at first but a great conversationalist after. Adventures (especially the spontaneous) are something I live for and I hope to get to see more of the world as I go along. If you have any questions you don't feel I answered, please ask away!

PHILOSOPHY

"Act naturally, let it be, think for yourself and enjoy this magical mystery tour of life. And above all, remember that in life, all you really need is love"

Interests

I am a student at the University of California, Davis and it's where I spend most of my time. I study Community and Regional Development. It has allowed me learn about myself and the world every single day. I bike, just like everyone else in Davis, read, study, work, go out and lead the life of a typical college student. I enjoy being around interesting people, discovering cities for the first time and rediscovering parts of them once again :-)

Music, Movies, and Books

Independent films, "foreign" films (especially those in Spanish/from Latin America) are my favorite. Almodovar, Tarantino and Del Toro cuentan excelentes historias. Films like Pulp Fiction, El espinazo del diablo and Y tu mamá también are my favorite.

Café Tacvba, Calle 13, Zoé, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Caifanes, Rage Against the Machine, Radiohead, The Roots, Erykah Badu and other bands/musicians that resemble their style are what I most like to listen to, but I'm into many other sounds.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being able to visit my native Mexico is an experience I fall in love with every single time. I learn something new about the place and about myself every time - plus, I get to eat great food and see my loved ones :-) Others include a backpacking trip to Europe. I got to see Germany, France, Spain and The Netherlands with my best friend, something I truly never thought I would be able to do. I'm excited to see what's to come :D

Teach, Learn, Share

I have tutored Spanish here at the university and would love giving some lessons on my beautiful language. I have a passion for Latin American and Spanish literature, let's have a conversation about it!

Other passions of mine include dialogue about gender equity, social justice, transnational migration and LGBTQIA issues. I love engaging in conversations with others about these topics, especially hearing other from other perspectives and lived experiences.
