Bored in a posh society restaurant in Budapest, I joined the "muzac" band playing slow classical fit to put Beethoven to sleep. Spotted a lone congo, motioned to band leader who motioned back affirmatively.

For the next 10 minutes converted dead traditional dirge into raw, rhythmic sounds of freedom unwrapped. Enough to make Beethoven raise from the dead to see who was desecrating his tradition with unvarnished African pounding. Enough to make Bob Marley proud. Scared my wife who failed to make me keep my deviant, disruptive way at home. Spurred life into clientèle who tapped their feet and breathe for the first time in weeks.
