I am a South African living in Australia. I just recently finished high school and so for a year I have decided to take a gap year. I am currently working as a Gappie (teaching assistant/house mother to boarding kids) in England. During the holidays I try to travel to see and learn as much about the world around me as possible. Having an amazing experience so far visiting Europe and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds.

I am a very outgoing, friendly person, and not afraid to try anything that’s thrown at me. Travelling alone at 18 has been a challenge but the best thing for me. I enjoy meeting new people and always keen to see the world through a different point of view.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve decided to pack up and go travelling for a year. Although hostels are great, I’ve seen friends travel and have the best of times meeting new people through Couchsurfing. I feel I will learn a lot more, and it will make the experience that much better to be able to discover and learn about the city and it’s culture through locals.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I enjoy a wide range of music from rap/hip hop through to country. Some of my favourite artists include 5 Seconds of Summer, Shania Twain, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran.
Movies: I love watching movies. I find it a great way to relax but also a good way to bond and have fun with friends. I enjoy all types from RomCom to horror.

Teach, Learn, Share

I feel the best way to learn about a country is through the locals themselves. I love talking about my interests and sharing my experiences. Keen to learn more about the world and the people in it from the people themselves. I enjoy hearing about other’s experiences and interests. Working in a boarding school has been so rewarding. Not only do I get to share my knowledge but I have learnt so much from everyone there (not only English but from people from all over the world).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I hope that I can bring a friendly, energetic vibe with me travelling. Try show you more than you would have known about both South African and Australian cultures. I don’t just want to be using the house as a place to sleep. It would be great to get involved and do anything I can to make my stay easier for you and the experience enjoyable for us both.
