Sobre Mim

I'm an incredibly social guy and love meeting new people. As I begin Couch Surfing, I'm thrilled about meeting all my friends around the globe that I haven't met yet.

I grew up in West Texas on the South Plains in a working family. I attended Texas Tech University where I studied Human Sciences, and am looking forward to relocating to a new state (either Colorado or Missouri!) very soon to begin advanced studies and continue work in non-profit.

I currently work for a locally based non-profit that serves folks with special needs (intellectual and developmental disabilities). My job is a ton of fun and I'm sad I'll have to leave it and all the amazing people I get to see everyday so that I can continue my education.

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

I'm dying to see the rest of the world with friends both new and old.

I'm not well traveled having only been over Texas, and VERY briefly to parts of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Kansas, and Missouri. I've traveled with family to Mexico City, but did not get to see much.

Meeting new people and getting to know them on a personal level is one of my greatest thrills.

Interesses

More than anything, I love people. I love volunteer work benefiting under-served women, children, and folks with special needs.

My second passion is food and new epicurean delights. Food is one of the best ways to experience another culture and make a connection to other people.

Among my other interests are outdoor pursuits including but not limited to: backpacking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, camping, and swimming. Also an avid tennis player and very bad golfer.

I'm also new to Hashing and am excited about getting more into it. On on!

Last but certainly not least, I loooove getting into local arts scenes, nightlife, and cultural events.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

My taste in music is pretty eclectic. I love college radio and independent music artists. Love anything new and unique sounding with diverse influences or very literate. Among my favorite artists are Vampire Weekend and related acts, Discovery, Dirty Projectors; Ben Gibbard and his related acts, especially The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie; Jack White acts; and Foster the people.

Not much for movies a whole lot, but my favorite is definitely Crash. I'll watch some others that have a strong social component or do a good job of illustrating human experience. Hotel Rwanda, Brokeback Mountain, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, October Sky, etc.

As with movies, I have a similar taste in books. Strong social components, human drama and experience, complex and highly developed characters and plot. Wally Lamb is one of my favorite authors, along with several others frequently listed on Oprah's book list. Favorite book of all time however is, Free Food for Millionaires, by Min Jin Lee.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

One of the most amazing and rewarding things I've ever been privileged to do is my work with my special needs friends. Among them I'd have to say directing a summer camp three years in a row was the amazing thing I did.

If that's lame, I've been to the Tradicional Corrida Navidena (Christmas Day Traditional Bull Fight) in Queretaro, Mexico twice.

Ensine, Aprenda, Compartilhe

I have so much knowledge to share on a variety of subjects. Culinary, family dynamics, child development, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and soil, and feminism.

I'd love to learn more about adoption from a family that has been blessed to adopt.

O Que Posso Compartilhar com Anfitriões

I bring with me a willingness to learn and to offer a helping hand with whatever I can. I'd love to cook a meal or help with a home improvement project.
