About Me

Solo travelers only right now. Thank you :)

Hey Guys- No fantasy fest requests please! I'm out of town that weekend. (Oct 24- Nov. 1).

My housemate and I have a couch available for one person for a one or 2 nights at a time. You must love dogs/not be allergic because we have two very nice older dogs: a maltese named Ted and a golden retriever named Tito. It's a couple blocks from the beach and right on the cusp of old town/new town Key West.

Solo travelers only... Last minute requests are fine and actually preferred.

Other suggestions in the Florida Keys.
**Seashell Motel/Hostel in Key West
**Boyd' campground in Key West/Stock Island Or Leos campground
*NYAH hotel (has dorms) in Key West
**"The ranch" on Big Pine Key. This is a donation-only hippie community that welcomes travelers to camp. Bring your own tent and place a donation in the box in the outdoor kitchen. ASK before pitching a tent. Go to Big Pine and ask around. There is no website, but they are there. Solar-powered showers, lend a hand around the yard if you can. Bring your instrument if you play..they love musicians.
***Florida City Everglades hostel. (If you are only doing a day trip to Key West or planning on spending most of your time in Key Largo/lower keys). This is a great hostel with free camping in the backyard, a waterfall, treehouse, etc... I highly recommend it.

ABOUT ME

I've been a writer since I was old enough to put sentences together, and my college room mate got me hooked on travel. At one point, while struggling in New York City, I thought that it had to be possible to combine the two, so now I'm a travel writer for a few companies, none of which pay me very much.
Traveling is the only thing I spend my money on. I love meeting people, experiencing new cultures, and seeing what life is like for real - not just just what's on TV. I'm working on a book about hitchhiking on airplanes and a short memoir on a 40-day quarantine at sea.

I've been posting some of my travel writing on ambernolan.com.

PHILOSOPHY

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted a handful of people, one who ended up liking Ft. Lauderdale so much that he stayed and ended up being my room mate. I've been using it to travel around the US during my airplane hitchhiking, but I also stayed with some interesting people in Iceland. I'm starting to host again here in Key West when I can :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

All over the US mostly. I'm not sure why it says I joined in 2010 because I have been active traveling and hosting people since 07.'

Interests

I like to scuba dive, I'm trying to learn Spanish, I write, I travel. I love paddle boarding, kayaking, and any activity that is on the water. I'm always ready to try new things. Right now I'm learning to sail and am working on a book. I also write screenplays! I had a short script that was made into a film. It's called Staying Afloat.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lots of stuff! Hitchhiking on planes! 40 days quarantine at sea during Covid. Swimming in Hemingway's pool was awesome, kayaking the dry Tortugas, bungee jumping and paragliding in Colombia, hiking up the largest mountain in Panama and seeing BOTH oceans at the same time, and Peru - everything about it is amazing. I took a sailboat from Panama to Colombia that turned out to have a murderer on board. That was interesting. I've been held up at gunpoint (in London none the less) and it didn't deter my travels. Got mugged in Detroit. I've seen the northern lights in Iceland, went on an awesome Dutch trawler in Maine, New Orleans for New Years (I lost my purse on Bourbon Street and it was returned to me) the list goes on and on. Let's swap stories over a pint or two!
