我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

Traveling can get tiring and overwhelming with the unfamiliarity of new places. After my recent travels, I feel that Couchsurfing is a good platform for travelers to seek refuge and gain a sense of comfort from the warmth of the hosts.

After a few weeks traveling in Xinjiang, I realised that the knowledge of the locals is invaluable because whatever is written on the Internet may not be the most accurate information. My friend and I received a lot of help and guidance from our hosts, which was very reassuring in these times of helplessness. *\O/ halp. drowning. can't swim.* They also enhanced our traveling experience by bringing us to places that we would never have figured out how to go by ourselves.

Back in Shanghai, my friends opened our apartment to Couchsurfing as well and it is cool to meet new people who always have different back stories to their travels. I love how Couchsurfing sustains on goodwill. Even by just having a meal or drinking with the Couchsurfers, I believe it adds on to their traveling experience in one way or another. On the other hand, the Couchsurfers always intrigue me with stories of their travels or their local cuisines cooked by themselves.

I really think the whole concept is pretty cool and I'm new to this. So, I hope it's not to late to join and also give back to other travelers!

I don't have much of a favourite anything but I'm usually a "Today's Top Hits" kind of girl.

I love watching light-hearted comedy but with a deeper meaning to it like, Kungfu Hustle, Grown Ups.. (Are those good examples? Those are the few movies at the top of my head now). Oh, I love watching cartoons and animations as well! Disney!!!

I don't read much but Facebook, yes.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I don't really know whether this is counted as 'amazing' but these experiences made an impact to me.

Worked and studied in Shanghai for five months and even though I was scared to go at first due to my limited language capabilities, it was really fun and it opened me up to working and living overseas one day (with my horses). :)

Ice-climbed in Beijing. Didn't love it. Scared to walk with crampons but yay, I managed to climb to the top. One of my friend unfortunately got injured on the way to climb the frozen waterfall. The trek back took us 6 hours in total, twice the necessary time taken to trek down the mountains. Me and another one of my friend took turns relaying the three backpacks in the snow. I even saw footprints of wolves (?) jumping off the cliff and I trembled a little (okay, maybe it was the cold too).

Survived a 36 hours butt-numbing train ride to Xinjiang. Worth it? Yes.

Recently just ended a camping trip in Xinjiang. Climbed over barriers and fences, survived the cold, the hailstones and what-could-be wild boars. :O

While meeting people from all over the world facilitate in cultural exchanges, I also appreciate personal human connections by sharing experiences and stories with one another.

I'm currently very inspired to cook. Even though it's only simple pasta so far, I wouldn't mind people sharing with me cooking tips or teaching me how to cook their local dishes, for instance.

Even though I'm not professional at it yet, I do enjoy taking photos and videos, and making posters if you need help in it. Besides that, I can also help to keep the place clean and make sure that I will be a considerate Couchsurfer.
