About Me

Hi! I'm Amy and I'm currently a second-year medical student in the U.S. I'm pursuing family medicine and plan to practice as a small town physician when finished with my training. This is my second career; previously I spent over a decade in the restaurant and retail industries. I grew up in Alaska where the nature bug bit me, but I have also lived in several states in the lower 48, with over a decade in Las Vegas. I have had a lifelong case of wanderlust, and I enjoy learning about new places and cultures immensely. Even as a kid, I was always the first to introduce themselves to the exchange student. I've studied Japanese, Chinese, French, and (most extensively and recently) Spanish. I love trying new cuisines, appreciate museums live performances, and admire unique architecture. Medicine is the biggest thing in my life right now, and I love talking to people about it. It grounds me and connects me to every other person in this world and I'm so grateful to be following this path.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Currently, I'm planning out how to study for my Step1 board exams in Dec24/Jan25 and I think it would be a refreshing change of pace to go abroad to do it (my local cafe is probably sick of seeing my face at this point). A solo trip studying medicine across Europe sounds like a dream that I'm looking forward to making a reality.

Interests

When I'm not studying, I like to spend my time in the woods. I also love vintage fashion, live music, classic cars, and performances. I'm a pretty good cook, too!
