About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a strange mix of intro- and extrovert. Have been working in education for over 20 years, a history nut, fascinated by food's cultural links and love to eat but I wouldn't classify myself as a foodie, laid back but full of questions, eager to explore but not so good at solo travel (I'm getting better though) I'm an American, lived abroad for almost two decades.

UPDATE! I'm taking a year off from work for travel adventure!!! First I'll be trekking along a European medieval pilgrims' path (the Via Francigena) from London to Rome! Then I'll be spending chunks of time in Germany, England and Italy. I'll be looking to meet with open-minded locals along the way, hoping to learn about the places I'm traveling in, from the people who know them best!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I tremendously dislike packaged travel experiences. There's nothing better than exploring a new place with 'insiders', especially those with an open mind towards adventure.

Interests

Archeology in any form, including social: Exploring layers of information, interpretation, experiences. Its all about the process!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Safari in Kenya-'running' with a herd of giraffes
Excavating at the pyramids-placing my hands on the same stones as the ancients
Vatican City with students- viewing the "School of Athens" in person with them

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a learner and an educator by nature.

What I Can Share with Hosts

For those visiting me in the States: My hometown is the birthplace of the American womens' rights movement. It's also smack in the center of a region called the "Finger Lakes", which is growing as an award-winning wine region. There is a developing "cheese trail" to pair with the path of wineries that the area offers. And then, if you enjoy shopping, theres a terrific outlet mall nearby as well.

For those offering to host me: I have wonderful stories about my times in Egypt, as well as my recent 2000k trek. I'm a terrific eating companion...you can count on me to always be ready to share a meal. I'm an eager listener and learner.

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Austria, Greece, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Kuwait, Netherlands, Qatar, Spain, Thailand, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In
