About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Looking around, learning stuff, giving stuff away

ABOUT ME

My best friends would say that I'm a bit of a tree hugger, and that I love to have interesting conversations. They'd also say I'm pretty goofy at times, like eccentric people and am super curious about the world. I've worked a lot in media and communications for various non profit causes, and have been lucky to be able to live in a ton of places and work while I learn about the people. I used to travel a whole lot, am into international development and have lived overseas a couple of times, but moved back to the US to be closer to my family. I'm trying to get back trying to get back into traveling, and really wanting to know more about the US and meet lovely folks in other cities and towns.

Interests

How do I spend my time? Quick run down: Traveling, green living, community gardening, volunteering, learning about new things, building community, non profits, going vegetarian (again). I'm pretty much into green living, building community and life long learning. I've spent a whole lot of my life engaging with groups of people who are from way different backgrounds than my own, and happily to find that in the end, people are really pretty much the same all over the world, the good and the bad. This was a great thing to learn and really believe, and hopeful for the world. Currently, I'm living in Pittsburgh, PA, where I grew up, but haven't lived in for over two decades - I guess we're called "boomerangs" around here. I love cooking, am trying to go vegan. Trying.

Singing in the car by myself is a favorite past time too. Be warned.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Awestruck:

White water rafting on the Zambezi with my sister. The open air microlight over Victoria falls was something I would definitely skip, since I nearly died of terror heavy gust might end me. But the whole trip was phenomenal.

Snorkeling off the coast of Mozambique. I was always too terrified to go scuba diving in Cape Town because it was freezing AND there are tons of great whites, but the reefs off the coast in Mozambique were tropical and amazing. Truly spectacular and awe-inspiring.

Volunteering for a non profit in Pittsburgh called Amizade, which does service learning courses and volunteering trips to 14 different places around the world. I got to work with them for 9 months, and the work they do in Africa, South America, Jamaica, Northern Ireland, Poland and the Navajo Nations is just amazing - community led development and a strog social justice bent to their courses. Really amazing experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know how to take pictures, grow food, be a good friend, find out just about anything you need to know, procrastinate. I'm really good at the last one.
