About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Save money for travel

ABOUT ME

While I grew up in the middle of nowhere, I've become a city person. I've lived in 6 major U.S. cities and love living without a car. I ride a bike everywhere, read newspapers, talk politics, sit in parks, take photos and I couldn't live without music.
I remember a report card from Elementary school (when I got all A's) where the remarks were something to the effect of, "Amy's a great student but she daydreams way too much"...I still daydream, if I didn't I would have a different life and I wouldn't be who I am. Who knows, maybe all those years ago in elementary school I was just composing my first photographs in my head.

PHILOSOPHY

I have the special distinction of having more experience traveling to live in new places than I do traveling for fun. Now I'm in Detroit for good and I don't want to move again, ever. I'm looking forward to hopping on trains, buses and planes with a very small bag and seeing the world as a traveler, not a weary mover.

Interests

I'm a graduate student at the Academy of Art (based in San Francisco), studying documentary photography and photojournalism. I'm back in Detroit to complete a thesis on food justice and community gardens in Detroit. I used to work for progressive non-profits and somehow still want to make a difference, but use a camera instead of a clipboard. I still consider myself an activist, although I find myself rooted in different issues since leaving the world of professional organizers.
