About Me

Figuring out what's next.

Hey CSers. I'm a traveler and a hoster from waaaay back. Happy to offer my time for a coffee, meal, drink or a tour of Waterloo, but unable to host at this time! :(

Jill and I live in a one-bedroom apartment in downtown Waterloo -- a great place to stop for a night or two if you happen to have a reason. The top reasons to stay with us in Waterloo include:

-- roadtripping from West/East or East/West -- UNI International Teachers Fair -- accidentally

Also, if you happen to have business at John Deere or a conference at the Sullivan Convention Center, for example, we're just blocks from both!

We are both in our late 20s. We like surfers we can chat with and take around the area, if that's your style. We can definitely be "live and let live," but we're also not going to let you hang here without us -- we're flexible, but you gotta leave when we leave for work.

Lucky for you, there's tons to do once you step out our door -- bars, cafes, restaurants as diverse as Thai, Mexican, Irish, German, Chinese, Italian, high-end, diners, etc. -- plus the Center for the Arts, the Public Market, Science Museum, Imaginarium, Iowa Veterans Museum, ice arena, public library and plenty more we're happy to show ya!

My actions are my only true belongings. I cannot escape the consequences of my actions. My actions are the ground on which I stand. ~ "The Five Rememberances," Buddhist sutra

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

Surf whenever I can, host whenever I'm able.

Surfed: 5 times (NYC, Phoenix, Boston, LA, Milwaukee) Hosted: Lots! (Several U.S. states, British Columbia, New Zealand and Sweden among our temporary couch dwellers)

I like live music and jam sessions, theater, movies, art and writing. I like having people over and just hanging out, playing board games, cards (geeky kinds of cards, too! *coughMagiccough*) or watching episodes of Always Sunny or 30 Rock or Arrested Development on DVD. I like bike rides and sitting by the river. I like sleeping in (though I don't usually get to) and going to bed early (though I talk myself into staying up). I like a conversation with a new person, a great book and a good meal. I like to play tennis and go downhill skiing.

Flown a plane. Stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Looked into the belly of the Eiffel Tower and felt like an ant compared to the Statue of Liberty.

Teach, Learn, Share

I play guitar in a bluegrass band, and if you bring an instrument or knowledge of an instrument (I have multiple guitars), we can jam.
