Hey CSers. I'm a traveler and a hoster from waaaay back. Happy to offer my time for a place to stay, coffee, meal, drink or a tour of Waterloo.
My wife Jill and I live with our small dog and large cat in a three-bedroom house in the Highland Square district in Waterloo -- a great place to stop for a night or two if you happen to have a reason. The top reasons to stay with us in Waterloo include:
-- roadtripping from West/East or East/West
-- UNI International Teachers Fair
Also, if you happen to have business downtown, we're a 3-minute drive!
We are both in our early 30s. We like surfers we can chat with and take around the area, if that's your style. We can definitely be "live and let live," but we're also not going to let you hang here without us -- we're flexible, but you gotta leave when we leave for work.
Lucky for you, there's tons to do once you step out our door -- bars, cafes, restaurants as diverse as Thai, Mexican, Irish, German, Chinese, Italian, high-end, diners, etc. -- plus the Center for the Arts, the Public Market, Science Museum, Imaginarium, Iowa Veterans Museum, ice arena, public library and plenty more we're happy to show ya!
My actions are my only true belongings. I cannot escape the consequences of my actions. My actions are the ground on which I stand. ~ "The Five Rememberances," Buddhist sutra
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Surf whenever I can, host whenever I'm able.
Surfed: 5 times (NYC, Phoenix, Boston, LA, Milwaukee)
Hosted: Lots! (Several U.S. states, British Columbia, New Zealand and Sweden among our temporary couch dwellers)
I like live music and jam sessions, theater, movies, art and writing. I like having people over and just hanging out, playing board games, Cards Against Humanity, other kinds of cards (geeky kinds of cards, too! do you maybe play Catan?) or watching the Cubs play or something mysterious on Netflix. I like bike rides and sitting by the river. I like sleeping in (though I don't usually get to) and going to bed early (though I talk myself into staying up). I like a conversation with a new person, a great book and a good meal. I like to play tennis and go downhill skiing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Flown a plane. Stood on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Looked into the belly of the Eiffel Tower and felt like an ant compared to the Statue of Liberty.
Teach, Learn, Share
I used to play guitar in a bluegrass band, and if you bring an instrument or knowledge of an instrument (I have multiple guitars), we can jam.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My home! Also we can visit and stuff.
