ABOUT ME

I enjoy hiking and trail running in all times of the year except for mud season. In the summer and fall I love backpacking and scuba diving. I love contra dancing year-round, and am learning west coast swing and blues. I tend to get to a rave or two every year.

PHILOSOPHY

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't been able to participate much in the past couple years since I've been living at my parents' place, saving to purchase my own. While I was living in apartments beforehand I hosted people every once in awhile.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've only couchsurfed once, and although it was an excellent experience, I never saw our hosts (we knew this before we arrived), so it's difficult for me to say that it really counts as a couchsurfing experience! I host quite often, sometimes several parties in a week, and have met some wonderful people.

Books: Born To Run, A Walk in the Woods, The Seat of the Soul, Power Vs. Force.

Movies: How To Train Your Dragon, It's All Gone, Pete Tong, A Walk to Remember, Lord of the Rings, Groundhog Day, Groove, Spirited Away (and Miyazaki films in general), The Game, Monsters' Inc., The Emperor's New Groove, Back to the Future...

TV Shows: My all-time favorite TV show is Northern Exposure. Second all-time favorite TV show: Firefly. I really enjoy watching Breaking Bad, Dexter and Naruto Shippuden, although I don't seem to end up watching much more than a couple of hours of TV any given week.

Music: I kinda gave up on popular stuff in the mid-90s. I have a huge passion for progressive trance music (Astral Projection, Infected Mushroom, Chicane, Blue Amazon, Antiloop, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Chus & Seballos), and like other electronica such as drum & bass, techno (Underworld), and house (The New Deal). On the other end of the spectrum I like ska (Toasters, Pietasters, Spring Heeled Jack, Reel Big Fish, Bosstones, Skatalites, Specials), jazz (Kilamanjaro), zydeco, boogie woogie, dixie, celtic (Great Big Sea, Whiskey Before Breakfast), folk, a very small selection of country (Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Johnny Cash, Jack Johnson, John Prine) and 60s and 70s music in general. The only genres that I really don't like are rap, hip-hop and extreme country.
