About Me

I am a 21 year old recent graduate from UC Berkeley, taking some time to travel while applying for medical school. I love adventures and the outdoors and have been an avid rock climber for almost 11 years. I also love to cook and bake, and am happy to share that passion with anyone kind enough to host me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Thanks to the high cost of medical school I don't exactly have the funds to travel the world in luxury right now, so I am relying on the kindness of strangers to help me see as many new places as possible before I sit back down for many more years of hard academic work. I also love to meet new people, especially from different cultures, and always look forward to giving back in whatever way I can.

Interests

Travel most obviously, but really anything to do with getting out of the house and being active. I love to climb, hike, swim, and camp and am not afraid to get dirty or sleep under the stars. That said, I also love to clean up and explore new cities, visit museums and landmarks, sample new cuisines, and go out to shows and concerts. Overall, I'm a very open and adventurous individual and am always up for trying something new!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Wide open here, I love to discover new music I didn't think I'd like. That said, classics like Pink Floyd and The Doors, quirkier groups like Gogol Bordello, and electronic like Ratatat and Gramatik are all high on the list

Movies: Love anything by Tarantino or the Coen brothers (Pulp Fiction and Fargo especially). Also a big fan of The Princess Bride and anything Monty Python.

Books: I'm a huge reader and have a really wide range of preferences when it comes to books. I like writers like John Irving, Vonnegut, Tom Robbins, and Douglas Adams, and am a big fan of fiction with a sarcastic but probing style. Lately I've been diving a bit more into nonfiction as well and have really enjoyed learning about new subjects or current events, or about new ways of looking at the same things (ala Malcolm Gladwell).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year I placed second at the USA Climbing Collegiate National Championships in San Diego, CA.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I mentioned before, I love to cook, bake, and drink and am thrilled to be able to prepare a meal or special treat for a host. I also love to get into conversations about biology, especially neuroscience, and am more than happy to share what I know if anyone is interested. I can share everything I know about the outdoors and rock climbing, and would love to take someone out with me if they know the area. I'm also a terrific listener and hope to hear some new stories and learn some new things from my host, as well as contribute stories of my own.
