About Me

I'm from Berlin, but am currently studying in Tilburg in the Netherlands.
Well, actually, it's hardly that simple. I consider myself to be a Third Culture Kid; I've been growing up in different parts of the world and moving around for most of my life. So while I'm exclusively a German citizen, there's more to me than that. I'm 20, having spent 10 years in Europe and 10 outside, so I'm fortunate enough to have experienced fundamentally different cultures and traditions while broadening my horizons. I'm polite (a bit too much at times) and good-humoured. Or so I've been told, haha
But generally I would describe myself as a very bubbly, jolly person who is respectful towards everyone and loves making friends!

I love getting to know the perspective of others on a variety of subjects, so by all means, fire away! My conversations can range from the very simple to the very deep and philosophical: we could be talking for a long time about football players but on the other hand also about the concept of home or how Hannah Arendt defines citizenship as the most fundamental human right, and whether she has a point.

I'm quite a fond cyclist, so brownie points if you are too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me, travelling is much more than just visiting a place. It's about experiencing it thoroughly, and through the eyes of a local is one of the best ways to go about it. I enjoy companionship, and I joined Couchsurfing in the hopes of meeting different people from all around the world. I want to make new friends who can provide me with fresh perspective on the world as I know it.

Interests

I greatly enjoy cycling, football, and travelling, among other things. While planning ahead for a trip is nice, I also greatly enjoy making spontaneous plans and acting based on my instincts. For me, travelling is freedom, and so is the nice breeze hitting your face when you go cycling and the surroundings become a blur.
I also enjoy reading, watching Netflix shows and hanging out with friends!

Now for some random blurt outs:
- other things I love: law, philosophy, learning about different cultures, languages, civilised debates (absolutely love it when someone has an opinion unlike mine and we manage to have a very fruitful discussion about it!), public transport

Music, Movies, and Books

A lot of books that I can't even remember, but Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman is a splendid one I had the pleasure of reading recently

My music taste is incredibly diverse and hard to describe, I think I can be fine with just about anything except heavy metal - but again, depends on the vibe

Movies - I won't lie and pretend to be a movie buff, but I'm sure we'll manage to find some we both have in common!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I couldn't decide between either so here's two:
- Recovered my stolen bike in the Netherlands after chasing down the thief (1 in a million chance of that usually happening)

- Left uplifting and kind letters to strangers lying around randomly in public transport; the pandemic was rough on all of us and I quite genuinely just wanted to be the reason someone smiled

Teach, Learn, Share

Share how it is to live as a TCK, and how hard it is to know what place to call home.
I could teach you a few things about the languages I speak, the cultures I've interacted with, or anything else I know that you wish to pick up!
I'm open to sharing food, experiences, stories and anecdotes.
