Hi! My name is Andras. I'm studying in Norway in the DRH-School. I'm a volunteer, I'll go to Africa and I'll help there.

About my school:

The first traveling folk high school started in Denmark in 1970. It later led to the founding of DRH (Den Reisende Høgskole) Norway in 1978. Today, it is known as the One World Institute - International School For Cooperation and Development.

From then up until now, both the participants and the teachers in the school have traveled and worked in numerous countries, on four continents: Africa, Asia, America and Europe.

In its earlier years, the school’s program was centered on not only preparing, but also seeing through, study and investigation trips with its students. The aim of this was to offer the students the opportunity to learn about the different living conditions of various people from all around the world.

Whilst on their travels, the students and teachers helped not only the people whom they had planned to assist, but also whoever they may have come across, regardless of when, where or how. Thus they were learning to adapt on the spot to different situations and apply their skills without preparation.

It was around that time when Humana People to People started their development projects in Southern Africa. The school worked together with what is today known as the Federation Humana People to People. From traveling and investigating, the school’s programme became focused on education for global practical development.

In 2011, One World Institute (DRH Norway) joined One World University on a distance learning regime, which was first pioneered in 2012. Since then a new team has started every half year. Although the basic principles of One World Institute have remained unchanged, a whole new curriculum has developed since 2012, after which the students acquire a Single A-Certificate in "Fighting with the Poor".

In the school we have a part, when we're going to abroad and we'll investigate some interesting topic. We're going to the world to the different countries and we'll spend our time with the local people. Very important for us meeting and speaking with the locals. We need to know, how the locals are living, what they are feeling, what they are eating, where they are spending their time. Please help us to find accommodation in your country! :-)
