CURRENT MISSION
ABOUT ME
I studied Japanese at university and can speak Japanese fluently (or at least I could, once upon a time - it's deteriorating every day because I don't practice).
I grew up in Sydney but moved to Canberra to study and have stayed here for work and a more relaxed, easygoing lifestyle. I enjoy showing people around Canberra's sights and exploring new places too. So let me know if you're visiting :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Happy to meet people visiting Canberra for a coffee or to show them some sights, especially on the weekend. I work 9-5 Mon-Fri but outside of these hours I'm generally free.
I'm currently sharing a house with two other people so my couch availability depends on their wishes. I have put 'maybe' on here!
I would also like to meet locals and other travellers next time I travel overseas. No definite plans as yet but here are some of the places I would like to visit in the next few years:
- Japan (again!)
- China
- Korea
- Russia
- Indonesia
- Vietnam
- Greece
- Spain

Music, Movies, and Books
Listen to lots of different music, some popular/mainstream stuff (Sia, Beyoncé), some jazz (Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone), some j-pop (Dreams Come True, Utada Hikaru, m-flo, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu) and some other random stuff (Miriam Makeba, Dawn of The Midi).
Oh and I love KARAOKE!
I haven't been reading books much lately. I read a lot of online news and long form articles online. But my favourite authors are:
Junichiro Tanizaki
JD Salinger
Ursula K Le Guin
Virginia Woolf
Teach, Learn, Share
I have experience teaching English as a second or other language and always willing to help others with their English, including help editing documents.
I am happy to teach basic Japanese, for example for people planning to travel there. I can also do some basic interpreting for Japanese visitors.
I studied Japanese at university, have lived in Japan for one year, and can manage everyday conversations relatively fluently, and I hope to improve further in the future.
I'm also a good cook!
