About Me

I am a very happily married father of three wonderful children. My wife is a college professor at Indiana University of PA. My children are in graduate school, college and high school. I am currently studying to become a registered nurse. Much of our free time is spent outdoors. We love the outdoors and all three of my children are named after mountains or mountain ranges.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am "on" Couchsurfing for two reasons:
1) I love to meet new people in the places that I visit. Couchsurfing is a great way to meet new people and learn more about the areas that I visit from people that KNOW the area.
2) Couchsurfing is free. You can't beat the combination of sleeping for free and meeting great new people!

Interests

If I could find a way to raise three children and travel all the time, I would do it. I have a serious case of wanderlust. I love pouring over maps and dreaming of new adventures. I also love to work with wood. I am not a master craftsman but I do enjoy pouring my effort into a new piece of cabinetry or furniture. Ever since I was a young boy I was fascinated with the crazy off-road race called Paris-Dakar. I dreamed of one day riding through exotic places on my motorcycle. Just in the last few years I began realizing these dreams.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like different types of music for different situations. I enjoy listening to electronic/techno while I am doing physical labor. I enjoy classic rock when I am on a road trip. I listen to classical music when I am studying or working at the computer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Without a doubt, the one amazing thing that I have done in my life is to help raise three amazing children. That is a true work-in-progress.

Along the way I have also: climbed the second highest mountain in North America, kayaked hundreds of miles of Pennsylvania rivers, rafted the Colorado through the Grand Canyon, rode my bicycle through Death Valley in the summer, been to the highest point in most of the states in the U.S., rode my adventure motorcycle through Quebec, Labrador, Newfoundland, and the Maritime Provinces of Canada and married the most amazing woman in the world!

Teach, Learn, Share

My oldest daughter is named after the Sierra mountains. My middle child is named after the tallest mountain in North America: Denali. My youngest child is named Tavan. He is named after the highest point in Mongolia. (No I have not been there yet!)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to tell stories of my travels and listen to the stories of my hosts. I am happy to help with small chores around your home. Need some parenting advice... I can offer what I have learned so far!
