ABOUT ME

Sometimes I go on a solitary walk/adventure in the woods, equip myself with the heftiest stick/lance in reach, and try out my best Don Quixote on a menacing tree/scraggly woodland giant

I believe that the best possible world is the one that we can only imagine together

I grew up in rural Northern Michigan and I jestingly boast that many of my character traits are due to this origin

I like to take my coffee black

I like taking in a moment, fully, fulfillingly

I cannot conjugate the verb "eat" in English without first doing it incorrectly

I love to know people, truly

I do not buy Malthusian arguments as solutions to our present environmental dilemma

I do not often resort to lists except perhaps when asked to define myself

PHILOSOPHY

I imagine that someday I will have some time-tested, profound, succinct, subtle statement to place under this heading but that is probably a long ways off. For now, I just make do

I generally like the music that I like, which can be anything from early 20th century gospel music to chiptune to a tape of frog sounds that lives in my car and is only played for guests. As for movies, I have a soft spot for film noir, European directors, Lynch, the Cohen brothers, Korean and Japanese cinema, Cantonese romantic comedies, and laughably bad, old horror movies. With books my interests are also varied. I have a reading list of what I have been told is "great" literature that I have been working my way through for years which has included everything from Borges to Pynchon to Melville

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

The summer after my senior year of high school I went on a road trip out West with my three best friends. Our destination was San Cochrane, California via the Grand Canyon because it simply was and our plan was to make a glorious loop in driving up the Pacific coast and shooting back across the northern-most states to humble Michigan. It was the first time any of us had done anything remotely like a cross-country road trip and it was a kind of magical, coming-of-age experience. Unfortunately, we totaled our car in the redwoods and had to fly home from Crescent City, California, but, in retrospect, that only added to the adventure

I am an avid journaler and I have been trying to incorporate this more into my social life through sharing and inspiring others to write and reflect. I am, at times, a reservoir of trivial geographic facts. I am trying to become a better oral storyteller. I am currently learning to play the ukulele so maybe in the future I will have something to share on that front. I love to make music with others, even if it is just nonsense and noise. I would like to improve my cooking and gardening skills. I also have always had a strange desire to learn how to make pottery
