About Me

In those 'get to know each other' sessions back in high school, where they ask you to share something interesting about yourself, I had always fallen back to my being born in South Africa; but it meant more than being just a tiny bit 'exotic', to me at least. I was born to a Greek and a South African, and as a result I've always felt a bit lost culturally... which is not as bad as it sounds.
If there is something that that upbringing has given me, it's a healthy interest in travelling! I love meeting people, love sharing experiences with friends that I make, love being in a place that I know next to nothing about... I postponed my uni course to have a gap year wandering through Europe, and so far it has been fantastic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Well as far as I'm concerned, what better way is there to travel through a country than to have a local show you what's what?

Interests

I'm a huge fan of hiking and climbing (though I'm pretty awful at the latter), and of soccer (football!). Unfortunately Australia doesn't care much for football, so I don't see enough of it, though I've promised myself to see at least one game in England before I go home. I'm into most things though- books, art, music- so I suppose I'll have something in common with most people, even if it ends up being a good ol' friendly argument over personal preferences.
I plan on doing a general degree in science in uni, but that was mainly a choice based on necessity. It sucks having to choose things like that straight out of school. I do really like science though.

Music, Movies, and Books

There's some great Australian music coming out nowadays, though most people I've met haven't really known that which is a shame. I'm not a huge fan of most pop music though, or country, but I would love to become educated in your stuff nonetheless! That goes for books and movies as well- I'm always stuck with Westerners, which I would like to change.
But I guess I like any crazy hiking stories of people doing ridiculous things in the Himalayas or somewhere. They make me have a permanent cringe, but I love it. And pretty/clever movies, though my judgement is kinda off.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Earlier this year I spent three months in Nepal. I went hiking up to the base camp of Mt. Everest (which, incidentally, is where my profile pic is from), did a bit of volunteering, and had a great time with all the people I met there.
It's the kind of place that I left feeling quite unhappy, like I had left something behind- which I had, I guess. The friends I made were wonderful, and I hope it won't be the last I see of them- Australia is so far away from everywhere!

Teach, Learn, Share

I would really like to learn how to cook some weird and wonderful foods, and can try share some of the culture I grew up with. I have no vegemite though, sorry.
Other than that... I can bang on a piano a bit?
