About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Always exploring, no matter where that takes me.
ABOUT ME
I am a Hungarian-American currently living in Amsterdam, lived in Pittsburgh most of my life followed by time in Cleveland.
I consider myself to be an explorer- I am a PhD student in astronomy, which means I get to explore the universe! And I explore this world we live in a lot as well- along the way I have traveled around to nearly 50 countries on six continents.
I'm also very into sharing my various adventures, both in the universe and closer to home, so I write for magazines like "Astronomy" and "Sky and Telescope" as well as my travel blog, whereisyvette.com. Adventures are nowhere near as exciting when there's no one to share them with...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I really enjoy the people that you can meet through CouchSurfing even though I'm not hosting right now- it's such a vibrant community, especially in Amsterdam! :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I once went to an event in Amsterdam where I sat next to a German guy who was in town for the weekend, not only was he a physicist (ie my field) it turned out we'd been in the same electromagnetism class together. Five years before. IN NEW ZEALAND.
CouchSurfing is basically where one goes to realize that the entire world is your neighborhood!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The only person on Earth who has been to Everest Base Camp AND punched by a wild mountain gorilla. Have spent a summer looking for aliens with SETI, been inducted to a remote tribe in Polynesia, ridden an ostrich, lived in New Zealand a semester, a published author... yep.
Teach, Learn, Share
My two passions in life are astronomy and travel, as both are different explorations of our universe. Currently doing an Astronomy PhD at the University of Amsterdam, before this I did physics, and I've traveled extensively around the world.
