About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finish my screenplay and catch a few good waves in Durban!

ABOUT ME

NOTE: With both girls back for the summer and Patricia and I out of town till August ... we are sorry but we can't host for the moment.

I like to write. I work in an inner-city middle school as a librarian. My wife teaches in a community college. My two daughters love to cook, dance, play jazz violin, and play soccer. And I coached. Fiona (the eldest) just graduated from UC Berkeley, and Megan is studying viticulture at UC Davis to learn how to grow grapes and make wine.

I hitched across the U.S. twice.

PHILOSOPHY

Try to leave time to smell the roses.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed through Europe with my daughter, Megan, and we've had couchsurfers come stay with us here in California. All great experiences!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My youngest daughter Megan(now 19yrs) and I couchsurfed through France and Holland nearly 4 years ago - I wanted her to see some of the world and I wanted to see more of it myself. We met some wonderful folks.

Since then Megan and her best friend of 10 years, Genny have taken their own trip to Europe and got to Couchsurf in Italy and Paris.

Interests

Eclectic. Most things interest me. If they didn't I wouldn't be a librarian.

Music, Movies, and Books

Beatles, Bob Dylan, Kinks, Amy Winehouse, Soweto String Quartet, Syd Kitchen's Afro-Saxon one of a kind. Tolstoy and J.M. Coetzee. Kurt Vonnegut brings great relief. I like movies from Africa, Midnight Cowboy was brilliant, Tin Drum was an unbelievable book. de Beauvoir's The Second Sex.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once got a job on a ship in Durban, South Africa at 5:00pm and sailed out at 10:00pm. It was that quick and what an adventure. The ship broke down at sea off Africa. We were surrounded by dolphins wondering what the hell we were doing there. A Portuguese warship came too. I think they wondered the same thing. Six weeks after we left Lisbon (seems like Portugal was a theme) they had a revolution.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom
