Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I grew up in a small suburb not far from the big city of Chicago but also on the border of cornfields. I grew up without diversity in terms of people (languages, cultures, religions, etc) or nature (mountains, beaches, rivers, etc). Now that I'm older and out of there I'm trying to explore as many people and places as I can. I've surfed throughout Europe and now I'm hosting in Chicago.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I surfed in a few places in Europe and used CS all the time for meet-ups, hikes, and dinners when I lived in Klagenfurt, Austria. I've dried my rain-soaked clothing on an Italian's radiator after playing in the puddles with him and I've been to vegan barbecues in rural Austrian backyards. Now that I have my own place, I feel the need to pay it forward. My lovely partner has agreed that we can host. We're not interested if you're looking for a way to avoid paying for a hotel. You know who you are, and there are options for you -- try AirBNB, etc. But if we're available, we're willing to share our space if you're willing to share laughs, stories, language, drinks, whatever :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My best friend and I drove from South Carolina to San Francisco to LA and back to South Carolina. It was over 8,000 miles and took a few weeks. We camped or crashed on friends' couches the whole way.

I hitchhiked from southern Austria to Prague in 10 hours. Our rides were a man who told us he was wanted by the Russian government, a German couple who thought we were crazy, a big man in a small car, and a small man in a big car.
