ABOUT ME

My name is David and I am 27 years of age. I've spent the last several years in Austin, TX. A place that I now think of as my home. I have lived in several cities in Texas, Los Angeles, and France, where I was an assistant English teacher.

Over the past decade, I have had a strong fascination with France and French culture. I think it all started when I was 13 and I saw my first French film, which was either Luis Bunuel's "Belle de jour" or Jean Cocteau's "La belle et la bete." Either way, they are still two of my favorite films and they helped to give me a strong love of French cinema. Sometimes, I think that I know more about French cinema than American cinema.

I think I would best describe myself as kind, funny, intelligent, and dependable. I'm a very considerate person, who is respectful of the beliefs of others. I'm also very down-to-earth, and I love to make people laugh and have a good time. I'm hoping that couchsurfing will allow me to improve my language skills. I speak conversational French but would like to be fluent one day. I will also gladly help people with their English, as I think language exchanges are one of the best things about the couchsurfing concept. Plus, I just like meeting new people!

PHILOSOPHY

While we are on this earth, we should treat each other with respect and kindness. I believe that we should be tolerant of the many differences that exist between us, because we are all a part of this collective experience called life. Let's live it with good intentions and open hearts.

I have couchsurfed through Europe just a bit. New to hosting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to hosting. I have had a few experiences couchsurfing when I lived in Europe and they were all fairly positive. It was a good experience for me overall.

Places I enjoy include going to concerts, museums, coffee shops, record stores, book stores, art galleries, parties, outdoor events, and festivals. On occasion, I like to go clubbing with my friends. Dancing is great exercise and I can be very energetic on the dance floor when the music is right. Other times, it is good to just find a quiet spot to have a drink and to discuss life.

Some of my favorite French films are Bleu, Rouge, La double vie de Veronique, A ma soeur, La vie promise, Les roseaux sauvages, Vivre sa vie, L'argent, La pianiste, La passion de Jeanne d'Arc, Beau travail, La reine Margot, Hiroshima mon amour, La separation, Mademoiselle, 37.2 le matin, and many more.

English-language films would be Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, The Red Shoes, Lovely & Amazing, Beautiful Thing, Ghost World, Patch of Blue, The World of Suzie Wong, Naked Kiss, The Night Porter, The Color Purple, Pretty Baby, Paper Moon, Breaking the Waves, Sleeping Beauty, Zeffirelli's Romeo & Juliet, Places in the Heart, Montenegro, Picnic At Hanging Rock and many more.

My music tastes seem to be geared towards female singer-songwriters. I guess part of me is stuck in the era of Lilith Fair. My favorites include: Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Heather Nova, Joan Armatrading, Patty Griffin, Paula Cole, Emmylou Harris, Joni Mitchell, Lucinda Williams, Dolly Parton, Florence + The Machine, PJ Harvey, Beth Orton, Natalie Merchant, and many more. If I'm at a dance club, then I like to hear Rihanna, Beyonce, Whitney Houston, David Guetta, etc.

I also enjoy some French music. My favorites being Calogero, De Palmas, Serge Gainsbourg, Michel Berger, Francoise Hardy, Zazie, and Mylene Farmer.

Living in France as an assistant English teacher. I think that is a pretty amazing accomplishment.
