ABOUT ME

I was born in Bangladesh but raised in Australia - I moved when i was young. I've finished a marketing degree and an arts degree in uni and then moved to London. The main reason I moved to London was to be in the same city as my then girlfriend. Unfortunately, she is no longer my girlfriend. (She is now my wife:)

I didn't want to a corporate life, so in London i started teaching english as a second language to migrant students in primary school. I loved it so much that I'm now back in University here in Melbourne, becoming qualified to be a teacher!

I have a 'want to save the world' syndrome, like many people on here, and for years I tried to figure out how to make a positive contribution to society. Eventually it became obvious that education was a great, rewarding way to contribute something positive to society, so I want to see where it takes me. I'm particularly interested in education in the developing world, and the role it plays in social justice and social mobility. I hope that after some experience in classrooms in Australia, I can build my skills and knowledge and try and make a difference in education in the developing world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Many, many great experiences with CS - have been involved for 6 years now. Met loads of amazing people, and there is no greater way to travel. It really does bring out the best in people, and it also brings out the best people. Some of my interactions and connections I've had through CS will stay with me all my life.

Travel and couchsurfing, meeting a range of people both like-minded and otherwise, is broadening my horizons and my thinking. I hope this exposure to people and stimulus of all kinds, as well as the time to read, write and contemplate, will help me figure out what I want to do in this world.

Interests

I love sport, especially cricket, soccer and rugby. Travel is my passion, and food is my passion when i travel.

Reading is one of my favourite pastimes.

I love food, and both my wife and I love cooking together. Some of our favourite couchsurfing experiences have been around cooking... for people we've stayed with, sharing our Bangladeshi food with them, and also trying the cooking of people from all over the world. It is a great way to make a connection, and learn something about people and cultures.
