ABOUT ME

There's nothing more valuable than the experiences shared through conversations. I can't possibly see everything in the world, but hopefully, by talking to enough people, from as diverse backgrounds as possible, I can get asymptotically closer to seeing it all.

I'm Anirudh from India and I live and study in Singapore as a student of Economics and Political Science at the National University of Singapore.

I am an avid language learner, and can have conversations in about 9 languages - English (my first language), Malayalam (my mother tongue), Spanish (near-fluent), Tamil, Hindi, German, French, Italian, and Portuguese. I am also extremely interested in Applied Linguistics, in particular the area of Second Language Acquisition. I am extremely keen to improve my competence in these languages through immersion in the local culture and by surrounding myself with native speakers, and I think there's no better way than travelling :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've always hated the idea of visiting the capital cities of 20 countries and ticking them off as countries you've visited. At the same time, sticking my head out of a tour bus just long enough to take a picture of some monument isn't what I have in mind for my travels.

I'm here to meet people who, like me, think of travel as a primarily immersive experience, involving interacting with local communities, attempting to learn the local languages, and appreciating the finer points of a culture than their various monuments.

Teach, Learn, Share

For one, I've been playing a lot of poker lately, at very low stakes. I'm hoping to go semi-professional over a period of time, and I'd love to talk to you about that, coz I think that's a hobby people don't know all that much about!

I've also spent a couple of years speedsolving Rubik's cubes. I've entered a number of contests before, just coz it seemed like a good way to get a little motivation to get better.
