My current mission is to expand my world by doing new things, going new places, meeting new people.

ABOUT ME

I like to travel. I like nature: hiking, biking, xc skiing, and I like cities: museums, restaurants, concerts, theater. My ideal traveling experience is to spend time in nature: on the beach, in the mountains, and immersed in cultural activities.

I am a writer and a teacher of writing. I strive to live in an ever more conscious way.

PHILOSOPHY

There's a poem by Mary Oliver that says, "When it's over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to amazement. I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms. When it's over, I don't want to wonder if I have made of my life something particular and real. I don't want to find myself sighing and frightened, or full of argument. I don't want to end up simply having visited this world." That's my current personal philosophy.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have only hosted one couch surfer, since right after I signed up Gig and I went on sabbatical to Australia and New Zealand. Now that I'm back in Colorado, I'd like to host more. The one hosting experience I've had, I enjoyed very much.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since finding out about CS, I have only hosted. When we traveled recently, we camped and stayed in backpackers. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable being an actual surfer, since the expectation is that it's for young people. But I would like to keep hosting.

Intereses

Dancing, walking and hiking in beautiful places, writing, xc skiing, visiting wineries, visiting microbreweries, visiting my daughters, nurturing my relationships, seeing the world.

Música, películas y libros

I love memoir. Here are some of my current favs: Wild, by Cheryl Strayed, Running with Scissors, A. Burroughs, Let's Not Go to the Dogs Tonight, Orange is the New Black (also my current fav TV show), The Glass Castle. The Color of Water.

Movies and TV: LOTR, Shakespeare in Love, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Downton Abbey, Modern Family, SYTYCD.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I fished commercially (long-lined) for Halibut and Black Cod in Alaska. It was the hardest thing I ever did for a lot of reasons (sea sick, working 24/7) but it's something I can remember when things are hard and think, "if I survived that summer, I can do anything."
