ABOUT ME

"ABOUT ME" UPDATE:

I had to include my old profile info because I had a good laugh reading it when I logged in after 2 years. Man, how things have changed! For one thing, I moved to a new state. I've lived in several different areas of Asheville over the last year and half. Exactly a year ago, I made a little vision board with a picture of the the mobile home from Pink Flamingo and declared that I would like to live in a mobile home near the mountains within a year. 1 year later and here I am! I can't quite explain my quirky aesthetic. Just accept that I don't take things too seriously and like to have fun with this whole life thing.

When I'm not working or spending a cozy night in, I like to explore the area (there is so much to do in Asheville and I've barely scratched the surface), going to my favorite dive bar for Karaoke, or thrift store shopping. That's me in a nutshell

OLD "ABOUT ME":

I'm a little bit rock n roll AND and little bit country. I just moved from Austin to Knoxville, pretty much for the hell of it. Austin was my first love, but it was time for an adventure. When people ask why I moved here, my short answer is "Dollywood". In all honesty, I did months of research to find an area that would match my personality. I love bluegrass, Americana, mountains, drinkin, livin the easy life. I'm also eager to experience a lush East Tennessee spring. In Austin, the motto is "Keep Austin Weird." It's a mecca for the weird, a blue oasis in a red desert. I find that Knoxville is weird without trying. For the last 2 months, it seems that I've been living in a David Lynch movie. I love it! Bring on the utterly bizarre, the macabre, the freaks, the hippies, the hillbillies, the artists, the musicians, the intellectual observers, for these are my people. I'm just living out my version of running away and joining the circus...or Dollywood, for that matter.

PHILOSOPHY

Wind metaphors describe my life pretty well. I've drifted around a bit, taken some places by storm, got stuck in some whirlwinds, and tend to have a breezy attitude about life. I'm currently working on being more grounded...I hope I don't "blow" it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

PROFILE UPDATE:
I live in Asheville now. If you read my old profile, it's not too surprising that I skipped into a new state, though my roving spirit is now working on settling for a while. I have a full time career that now receives most of my attention, but I still like to throw my life into a bag and go on weekend adventures whenever possible. My main gig will be hosting for now. I have my own place (no stuck up roommate to keep me from hosting) with a spare room. My new career, some health issues and that natural shift into adulthood have all compelled me to nest a bit more. I would like to be a mama hen for travelers.

OLD PROFILE:
I would like to begin hosting, but I have yet to convince my roommate. I have taken in Knoxville quite a bit for the last 2 months, mostly through spontaneous outings. I like to get myself lost and find my way back home. I also have a Knoxville bucketlist with a few check marks. I have made a few great friends, but now that I'm working full time, it's hard to match up our schedules. I would like to meet some more people who could give me an insiders perspective to Knoxville. I normally am happily independent, but for the first time in my life, I am feeling a little shy about taking myself out to the events that interest me. I am equally open to going on an outing with an out-of-towner. We could explore this place together. I'm a coffee and drinks kind of gal. In fact, I like to make my coffee Irish so I can kill 2 birds with one delicious stone.

Of course, I have a wandering spirit as well. I chose Knoxville as my home in part due to the proximity to other interesting places. I am new to the South, the East, the South East...whatever you want to call it, and I have a lot of exploring to do. I've had very recent excursions to New Mexico, Atlanta, Nashville, and New Orleans. I am looking to visit Asheville, Louisville, Charleston, DC, Chicago, NY...etc in the near future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I participated through the website a bit when I moved to Knoxville. I mostly have experience couchsurfing on an informal level, through friends and friends of friends. Traveling folks are my people so the experiences roll on forever.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've persevered through chronic illness, multiple surgeries, endless nights in the hospital and somehow my attitude about life gets better and better with each episode.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to watch documentaries, listen to NPR and read non-fiction, so I can talk endlessly about a lot of random stuff. I'm a talker. I guess my area of expertise is mental health so we can play therapy if you'd like.
