About Me

I'm a PhD student, aspiring writer, amateur cook (mostly plant-based), language learner and avid tea drinker. My favourite places in the world are close to the sea; floating in the water is the most freeing feeling.

If you host me, I'll probably show my gratitude by cooking and sharing random facts about linguistics.

I love to discuss and have conversations about everything and nothing; my favourite thing about Couchsurfing is that it encourages you to share ideas with people from all corners of the world. I study linguistics, so if you like languages and literature, we'll get along well - though of course, there are many other topics that I find interesting as well - machine learning, psychology, history and politics, for example :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far the experiences I've had here have been amazing; I love the exchange of cultures, interests, languages, food and everything else happening here in this community. I've been invited into people's homes and seen an amazing amount of hospitality and generosity.

Interests

Literature, writing, languages, psychology, art, and cooking delicious vegan food. I also love learning in general - about ecology, medicine, politics or whatever I happen to stumble across - and, of course, I enjoy hearing (and reading) the stories of other people's lives.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like everything from indie rock to alternative hip hop to punk cabaret. When travelling, I like being introduced to bands from different countries, in languages I don't understand (or in languages I'm trying to learn).

With books, I like magical realism and psychological books, books about gender/race/social issues and cultural idiosyncrasies. Think books that make you think, books that entertain, historical, gritty books, utopian/dystopian sci-fi or fantasy that takes you to another world... I basically read everything I can get my hands on!

Some of my favourites are Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy, Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bérnieres, or anything by Isabel Allende, N. K. Jemisin, or Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (to name a few).

I read a lot, and my list of 'best books ever' is constantly updating, so this is a topic I'm always happy to talk about.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every instance of traveling alone feels like a deep venture outside my comfort zone... from learning to scuba dive or climbing the stairs to Montserrat to the much more mundane aspects of navigating La Paz by colectivos and holding conversations in new languages, everything that happens to you when you put yourself in a new situation is in a way a learning experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you a bunch of vegan recipes from around the world, or answer (almost) any question you have about language ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

Book recommendations, vegan food, blue drawings... and spontaneous philosophical discussions about the meaning of life/art/all the amazing and weird things about the world.
