CURRENT MISSION

I am in retirement and want to enjoy life as much as possible. Right now that includes my family [including grandkids here in ID] and travelling.

ABOUT ME

I try to be thoughtful in my relationships with people and with the world. I am liberal but not dogmatic. I am interested in other cultures. I love to read. I love the Spanish language and struggle to learn it. I love the natural world and the one we create...like gardens. I also feel that social justice is an important issue...and that each of us has some responsibility for his behavior in the world and for making a contributionto make it better.

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live. Don't judge others. Give a part of yourself when you see someone needs it.
I am 67, and I remind myself that there is no time to waste enjoying what is possible and letting go of what will not change.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I live in a very small community and miss the variety that I experienced when I lived in San Diego. So having people come to visit would be very interesting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I just had a visit from another surfer who is going cross-country to enter nursing school. It was great fun.
Since first becoming a couch surfer, I have have gotten a rescue cat who is very sociable, but anyone who is allergic may have a problem visiting.

I just finished a short class on Jose Garcia Lorca. It was inspiring and I wish there were more available in Hailey to participate in along these lines.
I have a very long list of books to read and am collecting movies that I want my grandchildren to see as they get older. I think movies can be as good a tool to educate as books. One of them is The Great Debaters, with Denzel Washington. It provides a glimpse at the history of black/white relations in our country and especially in recent history.
I like to listen to many different kinds of music. My favorite singer is Lila Downs. I would also love to visit LA to see Gustavo Dudamel conduct.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

When I was trekking in Nepal, one morning I was up early before the sun came over the huge mountains immediately to the east. It was so cold, as it was November, but as soon as the sun came over the mountaintops, the moisture evaporated off the ground like magic as the sun crept across the previously shaded ground. I have never seen such a rapid transformation. The power of the sun in that environment was awesome.
