ABOUT ME

I'm interested in everything and everyone. I want to know everything, and most of what I do is guided by that goal. You know that saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"? I think that what doesn't kill you makes you wiser and more knowledgeable... and what kills you just kills you.

I'm interested in art. I see art (all the arts) as inherently honest expressions of the thoughts, feelings, and beings of a given era. Whether you want it to or not, whatever you create gives massive amounts of information about you. Art seldom bores me, but when it does... well, that's important, too, and I want to know why, so in a way boredom is even more interesting than interesting is. Boring is the new interesting.

I'm interested in the whys of human behavior. Why do people do self-destructive things? Why do people share their bodies more readily than their minds? Why do fools fall in love? Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near? Why? I want to have thought about everything. I'm not comfortable with leaving things unexplored.

Most of all, I'm interested in living. The idea that there are no do-overs is both frightening and invigorating. I'm interested in everything, right now. I want all of it. Every little bit.

PHILOSOPHY

I try not to hurt anyone, and I try not to get hurt.

I had this dream once. I died, and I went to the huge room with a large computer in it. I was seated in front of the computer, and cords were attached from it to me. I then proceeded to re-experience my life, but from the other person's point of view. I was my own mother, hearing "I love you," I was my best friend in elementary school having my hair pulled... and so on.

I keep that dream in my head, and it governs my conduct. Everyone should be happy, and I have some control over that. I may not have a huge amount of influence, but I have some, and I wand to use it well.

Water-miscible oil paints are rubbish.

Loew-Cornell makes excellent cheap small brushes. If you're looking for a 4 or smaller, go for the ones with the wooden handles. Minimal bristle loss, and less than a dollar apiece.

Don't try to use polyester in place of cotton or linen when building a canvas. It won't hold gesso, and it loosens when wet.

Sometimes you only need one coat when laying red over yellow.

Dancing is important.
