About Me

Hi, I currently live in Asheville, North Carolina (foodtopia and craft beer capital of the south!) working for a non-profit land protection organization. I work in environmental conservation helping to protect the beautiful southern Appalachian Mountains. After graduating from university two years ago I took a year off from my career to travel the world and the USA. Travel has been my passion and my teacher for several years now. I am incredibly excited and overwhelmed by how many wonderful places there are yet to discover in the world. Though I currently live and work in Asheville, I still take time off from work to visit new places as often as I can!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

[I have been on CouchSurfing since 2015 but have not had the opportunity to use it yet sadly].
Throughout my travels, friends I have made keep recommending couch surfing to me. I usually stay in hostels but am intrigued by the idea of sharing someones home and would love the opportunity to get to know my host more directly. On my travels I've meet so many people whom I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know even if it was only for a few days. I'm looking forward to this experience and can't wait to let the adventure begin.

Interests

So many things!

City adventures: Just walking around a new city and getting lost is one of the most fun things to me. I love to discover new places sans-guide book and just based on local recommendations. Every city is so different! What kind of new food is there? What forms of art will I see? How do the people dress, talk, and play?

Being outside in general: As much as I love exploring cities, any time I really need to feel centered I go to the woods, up a mountain, or to the beach. I love hiking, camping, kayaking, rafting, etc. Anything that involves being outside pretty much.

Visual art: I thoroughly enjoy abstract and surreal painting but also love post-impressionist styles. I enjoy seeing murals around the city. Sculpture is fun too.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I love rock music and its many sub-genres (folk, psychedelic, southern, indie). I listen to a lot of american folk like Bob Dylan as well as jam bands like Phish. Others include: My Morning Jacket, the Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Alabama Shakes.

Reading: Most recent read was Slaughterhouse 5. I've liked every Kurt Vonnegut book I've read so far.

Movies: City of God, Birdman, Fight Club, and tons more

Hiked a volcano in New Zealand (the same volcano used as Mt. Doom in Lord of the Rings)
