About Me

I'm a writer who works in IT to put food on the table. An avid video gamer (OK. Truth is I'm THE avid video gamer 😄 )

I love to read and movies are a passion. From Casablanca to Suicide Squad (I know star wars dialogue by heart. Not sure if I should be proud if that. Lol )

Most of all, i LOVE meeting new people. My ex once said I'd talk to rice if it would answer (actual quote there). And i love driving. The further the better. Who knows what new adventure is waiting at the end of the trip 🥰

Oh. And i can cook. Just found that out and it was a pleasant surprise.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking t start a new adventure. I realised the diminutive nature of life when my mum passed away and i want to do something different and see so much of the world I've missed while i was following the rules if getting a job and being a responsible adult.

I don't want to just survive any more. In the words of Nomadland. “I maybe spent too much of my life.. just remembering..”

Interests

Reading - a book a day if i can. Two days tops.
Writing - working on getting my first novel published.
Movies - love a good movie. From Star Wars to Trainspotting. Once its good.
Cooking - actually writing a cookbook now.
Conversation - love to sit and talk about stuff. Anything is on the table.
Riding - bikes are AWESOME. Motorbikes too.
Hiking - the silence if nature reminds us there's more to life than a paycheck. Just watch a butterfly for 5 minutes and you'll understand
Driving - every trip is an adventure. You never know what interesting people you'll meet
The sea just awesome.

Music, Movies, and Books

All music. From Jazz to Techno. Classical to Steelpan.
From Stephen King to Terry Pratchett. From Comics to Graphic Novels. From Poetry to Sci-Fi. Is have a sizeable collection of books of all types so you should find something to read while here.

I love movies. My favourites are Star Wars. Bladerunner. Trainspotting. Snatch. Signs. Final Destination. Identity. Ben Hur. Casablanca. The Colour Purple. When Harry met Sally. Airplane. Vampire Hunter D. And anything Star Trek (Except The Final Frontier Movie. Ugghh)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught at a school for troubled kids. One kid couldn't read or write properly. I spent time with him and got him to not only pass all of his exams orally, he ended up being first in class in every subject.

Years later I was walking in town and heard someone call out my name. It was him with some people. He introduced me as the person who changed his life. He now has a job as a Clerk at Fire Services Headquarters.

I will never forget him and the fact that all it takes is one person to take an interest to change someone's life for the better.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think we spend so much time worrying about what we need to do we don't have enough time to do what we WANT to do.

Life is ephemeral and short. It should be lived as if each day may be the last. There's reset button. We have one chance to get it right.

The motto of life can be found in the movie Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Be Excellent to each other and Party on dude. If we can follow those two simple tenets, we wouldn't need to search for paradise. We'd find it right here.

Religion is like underwear. Everyone is entitled to find the one that suits them best without causing problems.

A butterfly is nature's way of reminding us that even the most insane thing can have a purpose.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a wealth of knowledge. And I can fix computers if they're not working. :-)

I love to cook and surprise people when they get home. And I don’t mind washing the dishes after I’m done 😄

I love to talk about life and stuff. I think a great afternoon is a bottle of wine and a sunset and a conversation amongst friends about life and stuff in general. It doesn't need to get serious. Fun is allowed.

I can paint like a master (rooms that is. My picasso skills are not as good 😂 ) and I don't mind helping out around a house or apartment.

And I TRULY BELIEVE that when visiting someone, you MUST contribute to the grocery bill. Even if they don't ask. They shouldn't have to. It's called empathy and common decency. Two things my mum made sure I learned from an early age (Best mum EVER)

Also, though I smoke I never smoke in the house. ESPECIALLY someone else’s house. I was taught that you always respect the house you’re visiting and the people there.
