About Me

I love meeting new people from all over the world and visiting new places. I enjoy cooking, coffee, and good conversation.

I grew up in Cleveland, OH, USA, but I did my bachelor's and masters' degrees in Chicago. Now I am a doctoral research student at the University of Oxford. I'm investigating how the cognitive science of narrative processing relates to Christian theology.

While in Chicago I lived with an amazing Mexican family where I learned Spanish. After that I lived with an older Korean businessman for 4 years.

Professionally, I served among Korean immigrant communities for 9 years as a pastor.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people and building connections all over the world. I'm a pretty down-to-earth guy who can sleep anywhere, so I don't need much more than a couch to crash on. I'm also a pretty poor student, so I don't have much more to offer than my cooking skills and my company.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy jazz, black gospel, and classical music. I enjoy movies, but rarely see them in the theaters unless it's Star Wars. As far as books go, since I read basically all day for my job, I don't really do much other reading very consistently.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was about 12 years old, I helped build a 17 foot sailboat from scratch in a garage with my dad and brother, and my friend and his dad.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love cooking and can teach you to cook most things. Particularly, after having lived with Mexicans and Koreans, I can teach you how to make the authentic stuff.

I love learning and practicing languages. I can teach ancient Hebrew and Greek, as well as English. My Spanish is strong, but I would love a chance to use it so I don't lose it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have real cooking skills, no exageration. I can also share some great stories of the various cultures I've lived with. I am also a good listener.
