About Me

Hey!

My name is Apostolos. I am half Greek and half Dutch.
I love traveling, whether it is in my own country or in a whole different continent! Meeting locals and getting a taste of their culture, language and day-to-day life is one of the most fulfilling experiences one can have, and my goal is to get as much of it as I can.

One of the most rewarding parts of meeting up with people from across the globe is connecting with their way of thinking. Generally, I prefer having a deep conversation with someone who completely disagrees with me than someone who holds opinions similar to mine. Exposing myself to a variety of opinions on any given subject is the best way to challenge my intellect and beliefs, especially in this age of polarization. After all, intellectual conflict is the mother of creativity and progress. The only prerequisite is, of course, that both parties are equally willing to listen and explain.

Couchsurfing has been a great help along my journeys as a budget traveler and a culture lover, and therefore I love to give back to the community. If you need a place to stay for a few nights in Athens somewhere along your trip across Greece, or if you just want to have a beer, send me a message! I'll be happy to hang out and share some of my secret apple pie recipe with you.

Currently me and 2 good friends will be traveling to the Netherlands for 1 whole month. Hopefully we'll meet tons of awesome people and at the end of it have the scars to prove it :P

Cheers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A spare couch seems like a waste of space and potential, doesn't it?

Interests

In my free time I usually spend my time on one of my hobbies, either drawing, learning to play the harmonica or writing short stories. I post my writings on my blog thealmostimmigrant.wordpress.com (in Greek).

I love beer and exploring each country's twist on this delicious beverage, and will never say no to trying out a dish of local cuisine (no matter how unusual).

Music, Movies, and Books

Good music, regardless of genre, is welcome to my apartment and will probably be played most of the day.

Some of my favorite writers include Tolkien, Gaimann, and Ackroyd. Recently I have gotten into comic books as well, although my first love of books still remains my biggest one.

My all-time top-3 movie list includes Nolan's "The Prestige", Jamin Winan's "Ink" and F.W. Murnau's original "Nosferatu" from 1929. I can enjoy any film, either by admiring how good it is or by having a laugh at how bad it is :P

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm actually half alien, and was born in a galaxy far far away. The trip to earth was pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach: Greek, basic film making and editing.

I want to learn: If you can play the harmonica, draw or speak any foreign language (especially Arabic), I'm always happy to learn!
