À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Operation Araxes in Athens

ABOUT ME

Ahoy! My name's Araxes and I'm immortal. Well, not really, but sometimes I maintain the illusion quite well. Je suis Canadien, et j'habite dans Montreal.

I'm 5'9, which in-and-of itself is unimpressive at best. I have thick black hair, not quite shoulder length, and rather curly, which is definitely not useful information to you or anyone else but I chose to include it here anyhow.

Right now I'm on a mission to expand my experiences, broaden my horizons and continue my love affair with our beautiful planet and it's lovely inhabitants. I love meeting fascinating new individuals with unique life stories, experiences and views that can be amicably exchanged in intellectual, lively debate over a cup of tea or some beer. (You DO have beer in your country, right?) ;)

As for myself, I've been all over my side of the world and I've done almost everything there is to do here. I've jumped out of airplanes, hiked across mountains, participated in political demonstrations, engaged in public debate, worked the office nine to five job. You name it, I've probably done it. But lets not get ahead of ourselves, all shall be revealed in good time.

I have a college degree majoring in computer science but I've long since given that vocation up in favor of writing. I've been told I'm a fairly well spoken dude, a fact you'll have to decide for yourself.

Anyhow, this summer I'm headed from Athens to Shiraz so I'll have ample opportunity to meet you charming folks along the way. Look for the road scholar (quite literally) carrying a green duffel bag and singing along to Depeche Mode.

Cheers!

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophies are too byzantine to describe in this column. Suffice it to say that as far as you're concerned, my only prerogative is to contribute positive energy to all whom I meet along my travels and if they're willing, share and exchange ideas which can lead to our world views being challenged, tested and hopefully, improved. Positive vibes across the globe and a kettle for tea up on the stove =D

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I hope to contribute positively to the community by engaging in both hosting and surfing, learning and teaching. I'm a great conversationalist, a clean and respectful house-guest and did I mentioned I'm Canadian? We love everyone! =P

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm entirely new to this community, so as of right now my CS experiences are nil. Sorry =\

Centres d'intérêt

So much to list, I'll keep it brief. I'm into films, literature, technology, politics, music, philosophy, acting, singing, internet culture, gaming, the outdoors; climbing, hiking, sightseeing. Oh, and I love board games! Monopoly, Risk, Scrabble!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

I'm a big reader. I won't get into specifics here, but if you're into English literature I'm sure we'll have plenty to discuss in that respect.

As far as music goes, I'm a big enthusiast and in my younger days I moonlighted as a singer in a crappy little rock band. Oh, the good old days =)

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I've jumped out of several planes. Repelled out of helicopters. Traveled to the frozen Canadian north and journeyed to the southern deserts of Nevada. Protested in political demonstrations with thousands of my fellow citizens. Struggled with the crushing financial debt of obtaining a college degree and the subsequent disappointment with the spectacularly linear, spiritually hollow path that's presented to you in corporate North America.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I have a great deal to teach. I have a degree in computer science with several years of experience in my field. Any PC, Internet or a general technical issue you have I can solve. Picture a modern traveling bard, who designs, implements and optimizes network infrastructure: surfing to a couch near you!

I have various other life experiences to impart. I've served time in the military, which some people find fascinating while others don't care for it much. I'm the son of a communist man and a Christian woman who fled the Islamic revolution of Iran in 79' and met in exile. So naturally I have a strong footing in world politics and will gladly discuss world events with new friends.

I'm fluent in English, Farsi and French. Although my french could use a bit of work, but it's good enough to get by. I've taught English in the past as well and I'm an excellent tutor. I'm more than happy to help folks brush up on their verbiage.
