About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Analyze the EU's legitimacy in Arctic governance, using sealing and whaling as examples.

ABOUT ME

I'm a guy who has found his future in the north. Therefore i studied Scandinavian Studies, Circumpolar Studies, and Polar Law. Now I'm dealing with the Canadian seal hunt and spend time in Newfoundland every now and again.

PHILOSOPHY

Do everything you want, but be aware of the consequences for yourself, the people around you, the environment and our earth.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Although I can't host myself, I'd love to meet up for coffee, beer or whatever!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was able to host, I really enjoyed it. I'm very curious to have my first surfing experience.

Interests

The great white north is my main interest as well as associated natural phenomena such as the northern lights. I'm a passionate music-lover, very interested in non-western worldviews and current international politics.

Music, Movies, and Books

There is so much music out there that it's hard to start. Well, generally I'm a metal-guy. The harder the music, the better it is. But rockabilly comes pretty close, too, some rock, electronic music and certainly Björk. I just recently discovered the band "The Reign of Kindo", a rock-pop-jazzy-band which for the time being I consider my favourite.
"Star Wars" is the best movie of all time. Other great ones are difficult, because there are so many out there, too. "The Fountain" is certainly my all time favourite and so is "Solaris" (the new version). "Inception" was very good or "Once Upon a Time in America".
And Stanislaw Lem's "Eden" and Frank Schätzing's "The Swarm" are marvelous books. Also 'classics' like "The Lord of the Rings" are books that I enjoy. Unfortunately I am not really able to read books for fun right now, since I'm so busy reading for work... But the time will come again.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seen: Ilulissat Iceford in Greenland and the volcano Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland.
Done: Learning to play the didgeridoo from an Aboriginal elder in the Australian Outback in 1997, including stories from the dreamtime, about the didgeridoo and its value for the Aboriginal people.
