Overview
About Me
Merhaba! I’m Arda a passionate physics student from Turkey, currently studying at Middle East Technical University.
I have a wide range of interests that keep me curious and engaged with the world. I’m an avid reader and explorer of science fiction, which fuels my imagination and complements my studies in physics. My love for biology and evolution often intersects with my passion for the history and philosophy of science, as I enjoy understanding how scientific ideas have developed over time.
Being a vegan, I’m always on the lookout for new recipes and enjoy trying plant-based meals from different cultures. I’m also a craft beer enthusiast and have started experimenting with homemade brewing, which has been a fun and rewarding hobby.
Maps and geography fascinate me, I have an obsession with maps and I love studying different parts of the world, which ties in nicely with my love for travel. I’m a fan of history, particularly the history of science, and enjoy visiting science museums whenever I get the chance.
In my free time, I like to dive into my favorite game Europa Universalis IV, and also I’m a big advocate for open-source software, regularly tinkering with Linux. My studies in physics also have a computational angle, which keeps me busy and constantly learning.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I joined Couchsurfing to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, fostering meaningful exchanges and friendships. My travels have taught me that the best way to truly understand a place is through its people. Although I currently cannot host travelers, I am eager to meet up, share experiences, and offer local tips and guidance.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had the incredible opportunity to witness Cherenkov radiation firsthand by entering a nuclear chamber. This breathtaking phenomenon, often described as a "blue glow," occurs when charged particles travel through a dielectric medium faster than the speed of light in that medium. Seeing this with my own eyes was not only a testament to the fascinating world of physics but also an unforgettable moment that underscored the beauty and mystery of scientific discovery.
