About Me
Hi everybody!!
My name is Arfur I am 20 years young and since two years I live by myself in Amsterdam. Somewhere in this big and amazing city, I do a major in Communication at the University of Amsterdam. My major was the reason why I moved to Amsterdam. Originally I am for a small town more north in the Netherlands, so traveling to Amsterdam by train every day became a bit of a pain in the ass. In Amsterdam I have a small apartment where I live fully on my own. I like the thought of living with roommates, but as I am an only child I am also very attached to my privacy. This doesn’t mean I am an “Einzelgänger” though. Spending time with friends is something I really enjoy and getting to know new people and going on cool adventures are things which I want to keep doing for the rest of my life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
There are many reasons why I decided to make an account on this website. The first one, let’s be honest, is that Couchsurfing makes it more attractive and sooooo much cheaper to travel somewhere. As a student I don’t have that much “doekoe” (Dutch street word for money), but I do want to visit a lot of countries and places. So for me Couchsurfing is the ideal way to do the things I want, without spending huge amounts of money. Plus it is way cooler to discover a city or place with the advice of a local instead of the advice of the tourist information office. Also, a friend of mine advised me to go Couchsurfing, because she has got great experiences with it. She has met great people and has had a lot of fun. Now I am ready to do the same.
Interests
My biggest hobby is theatre. In Amsterdam I am a member of the Student Theatre Association (STA in Dutch) and we make a theatre piece every year. I just love the possibility to be anything you want on stage, no matter who you are in real live. For me theatre is a way to relax and it gives me new, fresh energy. I have also played the guitar for a little while. I am definitely not a professional, but I can play some tunes….by the campfire. I also really enjoy swimming. I try to go swimming twice a week to exercise a little bit, but mainly because swimming is very relaxing. So in busy exam weeks it is a great way to un-stress. Last but not least I really love to travel. My favorite way to travel is by train, I don't now why...
- cheese
- exercise
- traveling
- guitar
- swimming
Music, Movies, and Books
I do not really have a favorite book or movie, though I really like French Art House films. The subjects of those films are usually less common and I like the style in which they are directed. Some movies I really recommend are: ‘Dans la Maison’, ‘La Vie d’Adele’, and ‘Samba’.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This summer I went WWOOFING in the South of France. WWOOFING is doing voluntary work on organic farms or in organic gardens. I have learned so many things, for example how to make goat cheese. This adventure is probably the coolest thing I have done so far in my life.
Countries I’ve Visited
Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Switzerland
