About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I want to be frugal as I travel through Europe, and I'm very interested in meeting other people as I travel, especially those who live in the places I'll be traveling
ABOUT ME
My name is Scott and I'm nineteen, but pretty mature (I'd say) for my age. I come from the small-big town of Tulseytown (Tulsa), Oklahoma--or as some call it, the black hole.
Ever since I dropped out of school, I've been full of wanderlust. The world became mine after I got away from bland and boring walls of school. Spending some time saving money, I eventually decided that I wanted to get rid of all that money and wanderlust by traveling through Europe. So, I'll be in Europe for at least 8 months, starting October 08.
I'm very interested in gardening, biking, reading, talking. I like to walk around. I'm pretty independent and therefore easily pleased and entertained.
I'm a sincere person and can be a quiet person. But don't take offense (cuz some people do, at least in the US where everyone talks constantly!), I just like to listen. If someone talks with me, I really make sure to listen.
PHILOSOPHY
Um. Not really possible to explain in words or a box. A little bit of nihilism (not the depressing, "everything sucks, lets just rot cuz i dont mean anything" inactive kind, more like the active nihilistic refusal to let any belief system or ideology hold me down), a little bit of hedonism, and a little bit of existentialism. I love life and find personal and social meaning in anything I experience; be it horrible or absolutely amazing. I'm completely attached to the earth, its inhabitants and have no interest in leaving soon.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
None formally. But I can sleep anywhere. I am used to not sleeping in great places. And I sleep on couches a lot. If I had a bigger enough apartment and a complying roommate, I'd offer a couch.
Interests
Gardening, reading, biking, walking, swimming, talking, cooking, dancing, going on late night bike adventures, photography, pretentious avant garde art philsophy, ethical hedonism, etc.
Music, Movies, and Books
Books:
The Culture of Make Believe (or anything by him) - Derrick Jensen
The Art of Loving - Erich Fromm
Anything by Daniel Quinn
Anything by Kurt Vonnegut
Situationist stuff
The Ego and Its Own - Max Stirner
Nietzsche
At Daggers Drawn
Armed Joy
I also like a lot of zines, anarchist pamphlets, etc. I help maintain a radical lending library back home.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
a woman asking to borrow my knife and then not telling me that she was going to snort coke off the tip of it, wonderful vegan food that i was sure never existed, a band of homeless people in Dublin who hung out with me, snotty irish and norwegian children, sleeping in parks, the german country side as i biked through it, a squat tree sit in frankfurt, germany with lots of awesome tree houses, and a lot of things that seemed like wonderful dream, none of which i can explain.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can offer good company, I suppose. I can cook a bit. I know a little bit of the radical history in the US. I can maybe fix things (bikes, for instance). I can paint your walls. I can teach you to garden. I am patient and if you want to know something, I will help. It depends, just ask.
