About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To meet interesting people- so pretty much everyone, to be open, to travel and to have fun!

ABOUT ME

I'm Arlette and I work in social media and content management with some event work on the side.

I'm a total music/entertainment buff. I used to tour whenever I got the chance. I did PR, band branding, party planning and tour/production management and no job has ever made me happier than that. The bands I worked with have become friends and brothers to me; working toward a common goal is a beautiful thing.

Other stuff I like include roller skating, horse riding, surfing, playing music, and cowpunk music. Or any kind of music, really.

I like bold, dark and dry senses of humour, but I'd prefer we shove sexist jokes and awkwardness straight into the bin.
I am straight forward and direct. I love almost everyone though.

I love cooking, please be my test dummy.

PHILOSOPHY

"Creativity is wasted on the sane."

"I'm sorry Mario, but your princess is in another castle!"

"It isn't how you drive a car; it's how you look behind the wheel."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host when I can, and when I feel I have the time to really contribute to your stay in this lovely city. I've been hosted my some pretty awesome people, too.

Note; Because I work so much, I'm not always able to host; my energy levels can be pretty low, and I've hosted while being tired before. It's no fun for anyone involved. I won't cancel your request last minute, because I've been there and it sucks, but please bear with me :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Met some of the most amazing people. I met people I know I'll never forget, hosted some people that will always be very dear friends to me. Everyone is so inspiring in their own way. :)

Shout out to all the people I've hosted yet; You made a lasting impression. Can I write about you in my debut novel? :D

Interests

Oh. Interests.
Do you think one tiny white box is enough to shove the world into? It wouldn't do it much justice..

Anyhow, I like cheese on toast. And sunny weather. In a way, I love being on my own and being free- in another, I really need people around me to talk to and to be silly with. I love my friends, I love nothing more than traveling, except music, I guess- but it's a mighty fine combination!

I like poetry even though a few years ago I never thought I'd say that. I like seeking the thresholds of my interests and crossing them.

I like sports I never tried before, but I can't really be bothered with aerobics or any indoor thing that involves machines.
I have tried rollerderby and it is amazing. Getting a permanent injury was kind of a bummer.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oscar Wilde would be a nice example. And Jonas Jonassen. And oh my gosh, let's not forget Gabriel Garcia Marquez, what a hero he was.
And arthouse movies. I like going to weird movie showings.

Oh, music? As far as I care for labels I would go with indie, some country, surf, garage and rock&roll. Cowpunk is awesome. Punk, blues, rock n roll..what's not to like. Mainly. But really.. I love everything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I made my mom's childhood dream come true; took her to a Four Tops & Temptations gig for free with a +1, and had her meet the bands. She'd been a die hard fan since she was a young girl. I have never seen her shine like that again. She is sadly no longer with us, but it is my favorite memory of all time. :)

Teach, Learn, Share

"Tonight, I'm glad
In my self-chosen loneliness
I won't be sad
I'll find some kind of happiness"
(Naked - Self-chosen loneliness)

Sometimes being on your own in any place in the world is exactly what you need.
It's not a matter of being sociable or lovable, it's a matter of balance. I hope to teach people how music can not only change your mood, but also, change your mind, change what and who you are. How it can shape you and touch you- and then, either disappear or stick with you. How it brings people together.

I hope to learn things I did not know existed, I hope to learn to hold my horses in conversation.
I hope to meet you.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Fun fun fun ('til my daddy takes my T-Bird away).

One thing though; I've been getting a LOT of last minute requests. I love it, thanks for deeming me cool enough to hang with. But really; I'm insanely busy with my job and my side projects, so I won't usually be able to host last minute, unless you don't mind hooking up with other entertainment people, or stay in and watch movies (because I'm in dire need of me time on a lot of weekends).
