About Me

Share the light of life.

"Dream out loud, and make no sound. Find your cloud, and ride it around." - Papadosio

I go by Matt, but any derivation of Mathieu/Matthew works.

I am an educator by profession - Teacher, and soccer trainer
Eu sou um treinador pra futebol e um professor de historia e geografia.

Football/soccer/futebol/futbol/etc is my absolute obsession.
I am also very passionate about music.
Eu adoro musica, e futebol é minha paixao

I do not speak perfect portugues. Falo bem, mas nao entendo tudo. Entao, eu nao falo fluentemente, mas eu falo mais do q um aprendiz de portugues. Sempre quero aprender mais, vamos conversar!

As an educator, I understand it is also my duty to continually learn. I studied political science and international studies, and I hope to convey the lessons I learned from education and experience to better the lives of those I encounter, no matter how brief the meeting is.

PHILOSOPHY

Be light! You never know how much your actions and words may impact others. Be the light that leaves a positive impact as much as possible.

Different strokes for different folks. Sem fronteiras! Nos somos todos um mundo. Uma vida, um amor.

Where you are born, and what your ethnicity/nationality is NOT a choice. Your actions and desire to create a better world ARE.
Be free from viewing others as separate from yourself.
We are all natives to a single Earth 🌎

Choose love over fear, and create the reality you want to live in.

"Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost" - Terence McKenna

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why? Because I love to meet new people who will expand my perspective of the world. There is no better way to learn about the places you explore than to find someone who experiences life in that place on a daily basis. Everyone has something to offer in the sharing of experience; both host and surfer alike.
This community is meant to share that, and not just free accommodations. Time and consideration are some of the most valuable resources you can share, why not invest that in others who seek to do the same?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE:

In 2014 I was hosted and traveled with some amazing CouchSurf advocates in Brasil. This was my first experience with Couchsurf.
I was hosted by brasileiros mostly, but also traveled with great people from other regions of the world.

Returned twice to South America in 2015 and spent 10 weeks in Europe during the summer of 2016.
Really enjoyed all of the couchsurfing endeavors I've encountered!

It's a profound community, and what you put into it is what you will get out of it!

Interests

Football, Musica, Philosophies of life and love, Falando portugues
Astronomy, science, learning to expand knowledge of this reality, and the pursuit of understanding who we are, and what we can do in our existence.

Music, Movies, and Books

Demais pra nomear
Too many to name haha

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveled through Brasil for 3months during the World Cup (attended 4 games, absolute madness haha).

Climbed Pedra Gavea in Rio de Janeiro.

Attended Strange Sounds from Beyond in Amsterdam.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can cook pretty well. The diversity of my cooking isnt that vast, but I can turn just about any ingredients into something worthy of enjoying.

I have done quite a bit of primitive camping, and would be glad to share that advice/perspective to those who are curious.

History (specifically World History) is my biggest well of knowledge, and would be certainly glad to exchange ideas on this topic.

Probably the most cliche "shared" aspect of being a surfer, and without ego (a superficially existent thing anyways haha), I can share some great stories, and interesting perspectives.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Boa energia e otimas historias. Falando uma mistura de portugues e ingles.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, England, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Brazil, United States
